WJC: 2022 Czech Republic Roster talk

I think Finns are better than years. Maybe last time 2016 Finns had so much potential NHL players than now.
With the lost of Raty their center line looks weak, their best offensive player is only 17 yrs old, D core looks average and thats overall a small team. Russia totally outplayed them at the 4 nations without guys like Michkov, Chibrikov, Svechkov ect.

How good is Jiri Tichacek? Have never seen him play but heard he is pretty good. Was a guy expected to be drafted last year. Apparently a very good skater. Really interested to see him and David Spacek play.

Ticháček is quite good. One of the better defensemen for Kladno this year, which doesn't mean so much beacuse Kladno is really weak in Extraliga but still. He is no wunderkind but plays quite a mature hockey for his age. The question is how much potential he has got for further improvement.
Hrádek may be an interesting player to watch. Has earned a stable spot in Pardubice, which is cool given the fact the team is among the best in Extraliga this year. Usually plays quite good minutes, which is again interesting per se given the fact that Pardubice have their defense stacked with very solid and experienced guys. And he is looking really good on ice. No miraculous moves nor rocket shots from the blue line, but a responsible defensive craft.

I think his knock was size. He was very active and skates well but was small. I say was because I think he had a bit of a spurt but still not a 6 footer. He is the Petr Holik of D.lol

Malek against Canada.

Bednar against Germany.

I like mlejneks approach here.

Yes, I think Málek and Bednář are both are solid. Málek has been excellent in Czechia 2 this season, he positively surprised a lot of people. Of course Czechia 2 is not exactly the league where you would find players with top finishing skills, but still.

Regarding Mlejnek as a coach, I actually kind of like his approach. He seems to me as "a normal hockey coach", no conflict or excentric personality, no dramatic proclamations, rather a normal man who focuses on his work.

I want to remind that Finland don't have only Kemell. Kemell is insane but there is plenty of good kids. Like Ville Koivunen and Roni Hirvonen playing great season in LIIGA not juniors. Lambert and Simontaival had rocky start but they can easily make lot of points. Our centerline is absolutely weak. I know Mäenpää and Kapanen - they are good kids. But yeah them set some questions. Without Räty I still think Finlands core is one of the best.

and in dmans... Finn have maybe best D in whole tournament. Niemelä, such a talent.. And in overall: all Dmans plays in Liiga. It's bigger thing than many thinks.

sorry offtopic

Also, Finn's tend to play better than their parts. Comparing rosters with Finland means nothing because of the awesome style of play or 'sisu' or what not.

Officially changed their name a few years ago as I recall. But officially requested the IIHF use Czechia just a week ago or so

It was not exactly about the official name change. Both Czech Republic and Czechia have been recognized as names since 1993. The majority of institutions in the country just started to prefer the name Czechia recently. It is the same thing like with Russian Federation and Russia, Kingdom of Sweden and Sweden, The Federal Republic of Germany and Germany and so on. After all, Slovakia approves the name Slovak Republic too, they just prefer to be called simply Slovakia for longer than the Czechs. Nothing changed in Czechia / Czech Rep. regarding the political system.

Good to know, I know I started noticing Czechia more and more a couple years ago. Figured it was similar to Swaziland to Eswatini.

Nah, just Czech republic was the preferred one because many people felt Czechia is too simila to Čechy (Czech republic consists of three historical lands - Bohemia (Čechy), Moravia and part of Silesia).

Impressed by your team. Could have been 4-2 instead pf 3-3, or actually even 3 or 4-1 because that goal looked a bit suspicious. I still hope you can win this, if not you guys will still probably beat Finland and get the second spot in this group.

But with the difference that this time your player injured himself while fouling. That look like the end of season for him, doesn't it?

Hard to say. He is probably out of the tournament, regarding the remainder of the season, it is too early to say.

I'm normally a pessimist but I think he'll be back for Austria. Maybe even tomorrow. It just didn't look like knee to me but I'm obviously no doctor and have no idea what is going on. but, for instance, I knew Jenik and Lauko were done.

Don't forget Hamara going out at U18 in first game too.lol

Generally speaking, I thought we looked beter than expected to start.

Brabenec looked good. Kulich looks like a player to me. I do think the D was good. Malek with 2 bad goals but some good saves.

Obviously I don't think we're winning gold but I do think we looked okay up until Jiricek got hurt.

No idea how it wasn't 5 and a game for the one guy but that didn't affect the outcome.

I'd like to see more from Mysak personally.. I'm a big fan and it's not criticism but he needs to carry more offence and he very may will tomorrow!
