Even if he was a train wreck defensively, I'd still be pumped. Seems that that's not the case the little I've seen and heard.

I saw a bit of pre-draft Q. Hughes and as great as he was, I don't think he had Hutson's raw skill. I could be wrong there. But hell who besides Makar has his shiftiness/skill package?

We have so many great pieces now it's crazy.
I watched both Quinn Hughes and Hutson a lot for the two years each played for the US NTDP (I have season tickets) . I disagree. Hughes was quite a talent from the very beginning on the U17 team - - just an incredible skater. While Hutson reminded me of Hughes, I didn't think he was quite on the same level.

Agreed, Quinn Hughes' skating and stickhandling were just not something you see often at that level. I do think Hutsons' elusiveness and IQ offensively are up there though. He's a tireless worker too.

LOL, for me that's a fortune....But for the NHL, it's peanuts.
Length of career matters. You make 700K for a couple of years with teammates pushing you to spend, then your career ends without much saved up and lots of expensive habits. It’s not easy even for the guys making bigger salaries long term.

Reminds of when St-Louis had Thomas, Kostin, Thompson and Kyrou in the pipeline all at the same time…..except that quad of Slaf, Mesar, Hutson and Beck is 1 draft instead of 2….just amazing
When I see those names, it conjures up memories of the ton of posts produced by our fans, both here and on the Rumors forum, trying to fake trade a way toward landing one of them.

Can’t tell you how many times we got rebuffed. Every thread it seemed, we had a Blues fan ridicule us with the classic counter of Halak, Ryder and a 2nd or telling us we had nothing on our roster that they liked.

So happy to see us finally be that team with the 4 upside prospects and we won’t need to get into as many fake trade scenarios for a long time.

And when Engstrom, Rohrer, Davidson and Guindon are all showing promise but are not your 2nd to 5th best prospects from the draft year (we often have had just one blue chipper) but 5th to 8th in that one single year.

He weights 156 lbs, he's 20-30 lbs away from playing any kind of profession hockey.
Hughes was 170 lbs his final year in college, turned pro at the end of the year and went straight to Vancouver.

If Hutson were 165 by next year, I would be ok with him statring in Laval, if he were ready in the other aspects of his game.

People need to learn to chill with our propsects. Lane Hutson is playing well right now for BU, but he still needs to get a lot stronger and quicker in straight lines before the NHL is even an option, and that takes time.

Also, I'm sorry, and mean no disrespect, but those talks about Hutson joining Laval at the end of this season are asinine. Hutson still needs to practice against tougher opponents, and get used to the faster pace before he is even ready for reps at the AHL level.

Let Hutson play out the year in the NCAA, let him also build strength and confidence, as well as tweak his skating technique for a second year, and then reevaluate.

Harris played four years in the NCAA and it benefited him immensely, so let us also take our time with Lane Hutson (not saying Hutson is close at all to Harris for comparison's sake, his upside is quite a bit higher but there's also more risk to his game) and see how much he can develop instead of over-hyping him and quickening his entry into the NHL too much.

Slafkovsky, Mesar, Beck, Hutson.

Can’t get ahead of ourselves, but it’s possible we’ve hit the jackpot here. This feels like FOUR 1st round talents. Each one could be a core player in the future. That’s a potential franchise altering draft.
You know when you have a great hand in poker. You're trying your best to keep a straight face, and not let on to anyone how you feel? That's how I feel about our current draft crop. On the outside I'm calm. While my insides are a roller coaster of excitement.

NCAA freshman Lane "inches" Hutson has 8 points in his first 7 games.

Kid is the real deal.
Haha...that's an awesome nick name.

He's a clever little dude and his skating/vision/hockey IQ is top notch. He has to have that in order to make the NHL.

Regardless of how much weight he adds this season and next, he's going to have to maintain his skating and great vision/creativity once he turns pro. His value is creating offense.

I really think he'll be an NHLer.

IF he can't handle big forwards 5 on 5, he'll carve out a role for himself as an elite pp qb and pretty darn good winger.

He's the type of talent that you don't have to worry if he doesn't fit traditional roles and positions. He'll break the mold and create his own role.

Last defensemen to finish ppg as a freshman in the ncaa were Power, then Fox and then you have to go pretty far back to find anyone. I went 10+ seasons back and didn’t find anyone.

Luke Hughes came pretty close with 39 pts in 41 games

Power wasn’t a freshman. You’re thinking of D+1 year.
either way if he keeps it up, he's in good company. looking like a real blue chipper.
