So glad I’m not the only one who felt the exact same way.

Great person and player, but he was a terrible GM - even before his family tragedy.

Mind you not Bozovin and Foule level, but bad nonetheless

Gainey had some good and bad like any other GM, but you could tell that the team was trending well especially up until 08. He had a plan, and he stuck to it until everything came crashing down in 09. He was a top center away from completing the team, but as close as he came to acquiring that, it just didn't happen.

By 08, the Habs had a better prospect listing than they do today, plus they were at the top of the conference. So we had the best of both worlds for a brief moment.

Hate is a strong word. Personally, I like Gainey as GM up to that point, and i also had faith in gillette.

I remember Timmins is on record saying that was his pick at the time and he was so mad Gainey traded it before talking to him.
A Savard did the same ; about telling Gainey that he could loose Beauchemin if he doesn't sign him with a AHL 's contract.

Of course, Gainey didn't make it . Beauchemin was exactly what the Habs needed at the time ; a big physical dman with offensive skills.

It's nonsensical to say stuff like this ("that pick could have been [...]"), especially when we're talking a late 1st round pick. Tanguay had a good year with us, and was worth the 1st round pick we paid for him. Never, ever, judge a trade by whom was drafted with said draft pick, because there's no guarantee the team makes the same pick.

Also, that pick was actually used on Nemisz, not Carlson, and it would have been extremely surprising for the Habs to draft a d-man (after drafting McDonagh and Subban the year before, and having a strong need at center), had they kept the pick. So, the pick could have, just as much, actually been Nemisz, Leveillé, Deschamps, McRae, etc. All players who went on to have fantastic NHL careers.
Former Hab scout said that was who we were taking.

Gallagher looks like he has a much stronger bone structure than Hutson though. Height is irrelevant. Look at MSL's legs.

Concerns with Hutson is that he is both short and has a skinny bone structure. That said, he's an exceptional talent, and I hope his light shines brightly for years to come in Montreal and that he proves everyone wrong.

All heights are a lie, so it's irrelevant.

He weights 156 lbs, he's 20-30 lbs away from playing any kind of profession hockey.
It's not impossible for him to gain 20 lbs by next year, but he'd need to grow and he'd have to work out in another sport like cycling to increase the size of his thighs. It would also build hs strength on skates when battling for the puck.

30 lbs seems excessive in one year.

I jumped from a 123lbs wrestling weight at 15 to 140lbs in a year at 16 (17 lbs), but I had stopped wrestling (primarily because they wanted to keep me at 123lbs and I was still growing) and had become enamoured with cycling.

Went from having just a strong upper body to having an upper body with legs to match.

Kept gaining muscle weight until I was 18, 19 and 20. Helped to have a metabolism that easily took on mass. Unfortunately, if it wasn't muscle, it would end up being fat.

Also, grew two inches, which is what Hutson's endocronologist promised, no? ;)

his nickname should be "elusive"

Just to say, when i was at secondary school, a student one day bring a little pig full of grease on his skin , and let it free in the school library. The old librarian woman took hours to catch it
it's a good nickname. He can have more than one.

Lane "the Hawk" Hutson. (Bruce Willis reference)

Gally's height is a lie.

I think Hutson is extremely skilled and slippery/elusive. Also smart. If he were a step faster, I would be more sure of him becoming a star.
It isn't, unless he shrank. I shot the McDonald's commercial with him the year he did it with Brière and stood beside him. He wasn't wearing heels. I'm 5'7" and I can confirm he was two inches taller than me.
