It was easy to miss Edler last night considering he was the guy always nearly off the screen chasing the guy with the puck.

Your schtick is ridiculous at this point. You can keep on believing you're the only one smart enough to see how great these players are that actually suck if it makes you feel better.

Edler is terrible and so is MacEwan. Neither belong on a playoff roster.

Go back and read your posts if you want to see "schtick", Bandit.

Has nothing to do with "smarts", I just don't think piling on role players for just doing their job and not being more than that is a justifiable reason for the predictable circle jerk of posts from the same people game in and game out.

Watching the OT again Doughty made some HUGE defensive plays. I know we want the team to hit more, which they did last night, but we have some guys that defend very well with their sticks.

Mcdarling -2, you know he'll be fired up for game 2.
Doughty nailed mc jesus one time and knocked him on his ass on a clean hit
I was stoked

The're a bunch of animals.
Thats an insult to animals. Id say most fan bases are about the same... but i dont think Ive seen a less savvy fan base thats always on the verge of a nervous breakdown. In all sports really bad calls - that ARE bad calls, get that kind of trash on the field/ice treatment.. but none of those were bad calls - or even borderline... the first goal overruled was the only one you could even argue at all.

I rarely go to other boards but I’m shocked at how many Oilers fans are saying the refs are cheating for the Kings on behalf of Bettman. I know there are a few on every team board including this one, but there are dozens and dozens of these comments over there.

Imagine thinking that the league is coercing the officials to make sure your team loses. Especially when your team has the NHL’s most heavily marketed generational star in decades.
Do I have it right? The NHL wants McDavid and the Oilers to lose, so Bettman conducts a secret operation behind the scenes to pressure the refs to make sure the LA Kings advance?

It’s just so stupid. Such an emotional triggered response.

“The league is out to get us!!”.

f*** off you entitled cry baby shit dicks.
It's a small market lashing out.

What's funny is that the league wants McDavid to be on a big stage and him moving on is more important to the league than LA winning.

Canadian hockey fans are the some of the worst fans in North American sports. They’re like the casual ignorance of Texas football fans crossed with the psychotic zealotry of European football fans. Hockey is so ingrained in their culture they end up going full Dunning Kruger and vastly overrate their understanding of the game.

Couple that with nothing else going on the city of Edmonton, and an immense entitlement complex, and you get Oilers fans.

They're essentially all like your grandpa after years of Fox/OAN/Newsmax being fed into their heads. It's bizarre.

Man there was a lot of negativity around here yesterday. We're definitely the underdog but we're not dog shit. Loved seeing that thousand yard stare from McDavid after the Kings scored a few times. He pretty much shutdown after the second period and really not very noticeable after the first. The Kings can still easily lose this but I don't think Edmonton is as good a team as people (particularly the Canadian media) think. The are built like an NBA with two guys expected to carry a majority of the load. McDavid is by far the best player in the league and the best in 20 years. Someone made a comment about him being the best since Gretzky and a reason why they'll win the Cup. The Kings had the actual Wayne Gretzky for 8 years and won jack shit. One player doesn't win you a championship. Kopitar showed up last night and what a breath of fresh air to see him lead the Kings to a very 2014-esque playoff victory. GKG!

Edler is just very slow. I dont know how that can be argued against. He loses races to pucks in the d-zone continually - which extends cycles and time in own zone. He was really wearing down in the 3rd..He was out for awhile so I guess some rust can be expected. He does throw the body but rarely in position to do so due to his skating,.

Byfield did a bad job boxing out Kane on Edmonton's 3rd goal, forcing Mikey to leave the backdoor to put a body in between Kane and Korpi. Luckily Korpi stopped Draisaitl's first shot, but now there's two players on Kane and all other Kings puck watching with Draisaitl all alone for the rebound.

Edler played ok, but the man is slow AF, here's some evidence. 3rd period, not soon after Kempe scored his second, Oilers reverse the puck, Edler sees it, he's the closest one to it, already on the move, with two Oilers well behind the play, watching Edler go after it:

Here's Edler.....wondering when the rink was extended an additional 250 ft....huffing and puffing....and an Oiler wondering what the hell Edler's doing:

And here's Edler, completely beaten, with a head start in time, distance, and speed....

Did he throw some nice checks? Yes. But it's only a matter of time before he and then Korpisalo is torched for his slow speed. Todd can't be playing no. 2 consecutive games. He just doesn't have that.

I thought Canadian NHL fans were knowledgeable? Booing an obvious correct high-stick call? Chanting “Refs you suck” after an obvious penalty?

f*** you Oiler fans
selective memories. glad you guys beat them. I mean I also got LA in a playoff pool so I hope to see a Leafs/LA Cup Final.
Good job last night. they are human and can be beat.
I cant believe they were throwing shit on the ice after Game 1

Is that all? Lol. Guy was a good to great defenseman in his day but he might as well be out there in a wheelchair at this point. If the puck doesn’t come right to him, he ain’t getting it.

Speed probably isn’t important against the oilers though.

Wow that is hard to believe it was that bad.. I know i mentally documented how many times he lost races to pucks, but that one is insane.

The rest of the issues stem from being behind the play.. and also when you are struggling to keep up you cant think the game in the flow as well and compensate or just dont try to make plays that would require too much effort.

Yup. Which can all be condensed into “he sucks and shouldn’t be playing”

I was working till 9pm, so I wasn't able to watch the game live, but I was following this thread. Figured they were playing like crap, but I told my coworker at the end of the 2nd that at least they were only down by two goals.

Got home and decided to NOT put the game on and just keep following this thread. Oh man, what a rollercoaster of emotions. Thought it was game over so many times, especially when it looked like the Oilers scored in OT. Once I read that Iafallo scored, I popped on the DVR recording and fast-forwarded to the 3rd period. So much better to watch when you know they are going to win. The 2014 run took years off my life watching it live.

Now I have to decide whether to watch Wednesday's game live or do what I did last night. Whatever helps the team.

Here's Bouchard's non-high stick to Moore's face. He must have broken his stick, have it go around Moore's face, and then magically reassembled it shortly after:

Don't forget Lizotte just tripped on the broken stick, he wasn't actually tripped...

I keep hearing Oiler fans say that he didn't actually hit him up high if you look at the replay.

I'm not sure what they're seeing.
Generally what you see when you've been huffing gasoline fumes for too long.

So true. I think all of us probably have permanent heart damage, less hair and greyed hair (for what's left) as a result of 2014. But man oh man was it worth it.
I also learned a lesson: don't fall for the wife's trap (when things looked dire) of her saying if they turn this around and win, can i buy ___? That smart cookie got me several times in 2014 on that one.
