Is that confirmed or just guessing?

Would be odd to me teams don’t usually do that for games. Particularly when they have 2 days off after the game.

They sure do when they play three games in three days. It's almost unheard of for a team to dress all the same skaters for all of those games.

You have seen the lineup care of @uticacomets. Thanks buddy!
I have been involved in a whole lot of family stuff today so I am late coming on board.

As to the line changes the only guy in the forward group not there yesterday is Senyshyn. Dugan and Halonin moved up a line. Dugan moved into Senyshyn's spot with Johnsson and Foote and Halonen took Dugan's spot with Parent and Schmelzer. The hole left up front is being filled by Geertsen, who has been playing pretty good since his recent move to D. He has been invisible as a forward the rest of the season.

To deal with Geertsen's absence on D Blujus has returned to the lineup. He is the Comets only remaining D-man. Nemec is getting a rest day after playing back to back Fri. and Sat. following his WJC efforts.

The scratches include Pinho, Thompson, and Laberge who are better than a handful of guys in the lineup today, and Senyshyn. Pinho and Laberge have been out for some time. Thompson played Friday night and didn't even make the trip for Saturday and today due to illness.

This lineup is the weakest of the 3 in 3. The Comets have received points in 10 straight games. Making it 11 will be a monumental task. I thought it was over last night after Springfield's monster 2nd period pouring 19 shots on Schmid totaling 31 for the 1st 2 periods yet the Comets clung to a 2-1 lead. Then the Comets reached down and somehow found something extra to take some of the pressure off Akira and limited the T-Birds to 9 shots and held on for the 2-1 victory.

I wouldn't be surprised if that bubble bursts today in an afternoon game on the tail of 2 hard fought victories on Fri and Sat.

I am way behind on watching this one and will skip out for dinner when the wife calls. I'm not going to check in with AHL.com for a score. So my upcoming posts will be long after most of you already know the outcome, LOL.

Comets passing is just awful.

All rushes dissolve on the sticks of certain players on every line. Halonen, Dugan, Talvitie and Geertsen/Hutchison. It hasn't been smooth with the rest of them either.

In spite of it ..........
Wothersppon fires a shot from the LW boards and it goes in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1-0 Comets. Kinkaid never saw it.

Comets now to the PP. Absolutely nothing from the 1st minute. Then Foote gets a chance down low on a pass from Johnsson and the Bruins cross check Foote to deny him another chance.

Comets PP is now 5 on 3. Great stop by Kinkaid and it kills the first penalty.

Still a PP. Nothing as the Comets can't even complete a pass.

Daws/Schmid had awesome back to back games

Hottest team in the AHL baby! As flawed as Utica is, there aren’t really many AHL doing better. The teams that score more can’t stop any pucks and the stingier teams can’t score much at all.

The Marlies are the only other North Division team with a positive goal differential so I guess it’s not too shocking we’ve climbed into 2nd place.

Like last season the truly terrifying teams are out west with most of the top scorers. The top Atlantic teams have gotten some great goal tending but none of them have much scoring.

I’m happy Bridgeport is 0-7-2-1 in their last 10 games, their early hot start bugged me lol. That and Phantoms and Wolfpack fighting it out for last place, which also pleases me.

Providence controlling the puck in the Comets zone, but efforts to shoot are continually disrupted by Utica. The problem is the Comets struggle to clear their zone.

Still facing Providence pressure.

Johnson and Halonen out on a 2 on 1. Johnsson shoots and is stopped. Johnsson might have noticed his partner was Halonen and Andreas shot it himself. Andreas is normally a passer, but Halonen is known for his inability to take passes. He has a rubber stick blade.
* the second forward might have been Dugan. Not much difference. LOL

1 minute to go.

1st ends in the Providence end.

Comets lead 1-0.

SOG 9-8 Providence.

2nd gets under way.

Comets get a chance.

Providence gets their own. Deflected out of play.
Faceoff won by Bruins and Daws gloves the shot.

Comets with all kinds of problems just getting the puck out of their zone let alone starting a rush.

Foote all alone in the slot on a turnover and he shoots it right into Kinkaid.

Providence is winning all of the faceoffs of which there have been many.

Daws stops a 2 on 1, but Parent gets called.

Back to the PK.

Comets clear it down the ice.

Daws a big stop. Comets clear.

Comets clear again.

Comets skate it out and the PK is successful.

Terrible pass by Vuk. Vuk gets it back again and gets to the blueline and dumps it in.

Back into the Comets end.

Back up ice into the Providence end.

Comets moving it around the perimeter. Providence called for hooking.

Comets to the PP again. The previous advantages have been a simple use of 2 minutes without any serious PP play.

Johnsson all the way into the zone and is stopped on a backhander moving through the crease. Comets break up their own pressure because they stand still and then force passes cross ice that are disrupted and cleared out.

PP over and again no serious PP time.

Terrible pass by Daws to a Bruin on the 1/2 boards.

3 shots have taken place since that error. He is not a good puck handler and often passes it the opposite direction of where his guy is and it's turned over.

Puck is out of play.

Vuk a clean chance to move the puck and shoots it into a nearby Bruin and the Comets have to reload.

Comets to the PK on tripping call and 2 Comets committed tripping calls one after the other and it's a full 5 on 3 for 2 minutes. This will be incredible if they don't score. Daws a huge save.

Puck deflects out of the zone. Stevens clears it.

1 minute remains.

Blast goes wide .

Shot in front stopped. Another stop by Daws and Stevens clears again.

It's over, but Providence is still in possession.

Incredible effort by the Comets killing a 2-minute 5 on 3.

Daws another big stop.

2 on 0 and the shot hits the post.

2 big stops by Daws as the period nears a close.

End of the 2nd and it's still 1-0 Comets.

SOG after 2 periods 26-17 Providence.

Comets went without a SOG over the final 10 minutes of the 2nd period.

3rd is underway.

Comets commit a penalty at 18:19. Not the start they needed to have.

Shot - save Daws. Comets losing every draw doesn't help kill penalties.

Daws a save and Foote clears.

Block by Foote.

Another Foote block.

Shot deflected wide.

Providence gets called for holding. 4 on 4 for 15 seconds and then the Comets will get a PP.

Providence ices it with 1 second of 4 on 4 left. Providence got the draw and broke out 2 on 2 and got off a good shot.

Now Foote is in and he whiffs when he's ready to shoot.

Comets are terrible trying to set up. Turn it over and it's cleared.

Back to 5 on 5

Kinkaid a great save. Another shot goes under his pad and slides wide.

Comets keep up the pressure and Johnsson...........a wrap around...........and .........HE

S...........C...........O.............R.............E...........S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW!!!!!!!!!

2-0 Comets.

Not the time to relax. DINEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, DO NOT try to lock it down! Long point wrister easily gloved by Daws.

1 minute since the goal and the Comets have not touched the puck.

Another glove save.

Dugan could have cleared the zone, but gave it away.

Huge 1 timer chance and it goes off the heel of the stick. That was a goal.

A little breather as the Comets have brought it up the ice twice. Now 3 times.

9 minutes to go and counting.

Comets get time in the Bruins zone and finally the Bruins bring it in and an attempt to center rolls innocently across the ice to Daws who freezes it.

8 minutes to go. Comets intercept at center and Talviitie skates in and his shot is deflected,

Comets now ice it. Face off will matter again. They lose it clean, but pass is grabbed and shot out.

Comets get it into the Bruins zone.

Get it out and get it deep. No alternative thoughts.

6 minutes to go.

Comets break up a scoring chance down low and get it back out.

Here they come and the keeper is gone with 4:30 to go. Talvitie misses the net.

I-timer wide. Daws stop.

Bruins score with 3:17 to go.

Now it's 2-1 Comets.

3:17 will take a lifetime if you are pulling for the Comets.

Kinkaid gone again with 1:40 to go.

1 minute to go. Providence cleared it out themselves.

:31 seconds to go. Face off outside the Comets zone.

TO Providence

Foote blocks a shot out of play with 7 seconds to go.

Face off to Daws left.

Finally win a draw and clear the zone.

COMETS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2-1

Point streak is extended to 11 games, 9-0-2.

FINAL SCORE

Utica Comets 2 Providence Bruins 1

SOG:
Comets - 8 9 9 = 26
Bruins - 9 17 6 = 32

PP:
Comets 0/4
Bruins 0/5

Scoring
Wotherspoon (3) from Blujus (1) and Foote (6)
Johnsson (5) from Groleau (3) and Halonen (7)

Daws - 31/32

THREE STARS
#1 - Nico Daws (Utica Comets) 32 SA/ 31 Saves
#2 - Andreas Johnsson (Utica Comets) 1 G (GWG)
#3 - Justin Brazeau (Providence Bruins) 1 G

Key moment in the game.
Nolan Foote (Tripping) and Michael Vukojevic (Slashing) both whistled off at 12:41 of the 2nd period with the score 1-0 Utica. Daws and his helpers killed the 5 on 3. Incredible kill.

Daws today, Schmid yesterday, and Daws on Friday were the main reasons for the 3 wins.

Friday - Daws wins it 3-2. Makes 21 saves on 23 shots + 3 stops on all 3 SO attempts. 2nd Star
Saturday - Schmid wins it 2-1. Makes 37 saves on 38 shots. 1st Star
Sunday - Daws wins it 2-1. Makes 31 Saves on 32 shots. 1st Star

This weekend was a serious gut check for a stripped down lineup. They responded with 3 hard fought wins that all went down to the wire and required every guy on the game day rosters to play his balls off and collectively they put together 3 stellar efforts. No one guy played a perfect game, but any time one player commited a faux pas, somebody came to his rescue and kept the other team at bay.
None of it would have been possible without yeomen like efforts from their goalies.
Comets fans should have their hats off to every one of them.

U-TI-CA! U-TI-CA! U-TI-CA! U-TI-CA! U-TI-CA! U-TI-CA! U-TI-CA!

I was there too. I have to try that pizza place next time I'm up there. What do you think of their arena ? It's a pretty great place to watch a game. Not a bad seat in arena since it's small. We got to see Nemec have that nice assist on the 1st goal to go along with that Comets win !

Winning 3 straight games in one weekend is impressive. Can't wait to make the trip up to Utica to catch a home game there in the next few weeks !

Yea I remember last year being the same case. The West's top was much more scary than the East's.

Still awesome turnaround for the Comets, with all their flaws and Daws/Schmid having pretty underwhelming encores. Go Dineen!

Are you intentionally trying to raise My hackles? Underwhelming encores? Are you reflecting on their entire seasons or this past weekend when they were individually most responsible for all 3 of the 3 in 3 victories?
