I don't understand the Weatherby trade at all.
Maybe he wanted out, figuring he wouldn't have a chance of playing for the Sharks again this year and, with an expiring contract, wanted to try and show some other team what he could do?

Agent said he didn't ask for a trade and he was a Sharks fan so don't know why he would want out. I think it's just a message to Merkley that the best way to get out is by just playing and stop being a distraction.

Was this the good ole days of 2018/2019 when they probably had the best team on paper of any team and should have won a cup… that year should have been the year. F the Blues.

No this was one of those nightmare years of insufferable suffering where we didn't make the playoffs and Pavs did make the playoffs.

I want Meier to go to a contender, but selfishly I would want NYI, BUF or DET because none of them are making the playoffs. If we could get an unprotected first - it would be great.
Only time to get that unprotected would be in the offseason. Kind of the same thing as what happened to the sharks when we got Karlsson, the team getting him thinking they would make the playoffs with his addition to the team.

Is there a disadvantage to waiting till the draft vs the TDL to make trades for the likes of a Meier and or Karlsson?
Yes and no. Disadvantages would be I think Timo gets a bigger package now (unless he comes with an extension in the off-season) and that our first is lower. No because I don’t think the packages are all that different now vs the draft. So while I say we move them at the deadline to get a higher pick, if we don’t move them there’s always the draft with little drop on the price.

There’s also always the risk of injury with EK.

Does Meier have any kind of a NTC? If not and we wait on Meier then we'd probably see more teams interested. Also more teams might have more room under the cap once the season is over. Karlsson is undoubtedly going to pick his destination so I'm not sure.

No protection on Timo’s contract. More teams might be interested for sure which could drive the price up but I think not having that elite PWF at 3M (assuming we retain 50% which why wouldn’t we) for the playoffs could be invaluable to some teams.

Not to sound like Captain Obvious but the Sharks do get to decide if they like what they are being offered at the TDL and of course if nothing is enticing enough they can wait

We need to look at teams that are a little overconfident right now due to a stronger than expected run but aren't comfortable with their status as contenders.

I think Dallas could be a team to target for Meier. With how mid they've been looking without Hintz, they could use a bit more star power there.

Johnston+conditional 1st+Faksa maybe?

I don’t think we could swing Johnston but they MIGHT be willing to give Stankoven.
