I don't see how it's a loss for the Sharks to go for a younger player, that has some potential and for free. If it doesn't work out, then what ever.
Well, MG better start making moves. This is a kind of a piece that usually gets traded for, not an amazing player but potential is good. He is also 23, and with given a top 6 role could thrive.
Bold prediction. Let's see if that works out for you.Looking forward to 24 hours from now when 31 teams decline to acquire this “great asset” for free.
I think we expect most, if not all, to get a game here or there this season. They're unlikely to break up the Cuda this year, so they will probably play most of the season down there, barring significant injuries on the Sharks. It also depends what happens with Meier, as that leaves a huge hole on the team. I honestly don't even know which one would get called up first, as it all depends on who they're coming up to replace, but Eklund should be the top dog to call up for a top-6 spot.Where are you expecting Bordeleau, Eklund and Robins to fit in next season?
I'm thinking Bordeleau and Eklund play in the NHL. On a top 6 role? Centre?
Robins get a few games?
Also curious about Guschsin and Raska but they seem further away from the NHL
They are at 20. Cicek, Suess, and Svechnikov were sent down this weekend.Considering we have not made a trade to open up a roster spot, it's safe to say we're not getting Tolvanen. My guess is he's a duck at 2pm.
Sharks are already in LTIR and could claim Tolvanen without making any additional moves. It would just be pointless to do so.I think we can use LTIR if we needed to (as long as Nuttivara never gets healthy), but otherwise we straight-up don't have the cap space without trading someone making as much or more (like Lindblom or Bonino).
Why would it be pointless to claim him? Isn't this a type of player a team in our position absolutely should take a gamble on?Sharks are already in LTIR and could claim Tolvanen without making any additional moves. It would just be pointless to do so.
I think we’re already set in the overpaid fourth line winger department. Why would it be pointless to claim him? Isn't this a type of player a team in our position absolutely should take a gamble on?
It's a low risk, high-reward move that we can pull it off financially. If it doesn't work, we waive him too, just like we did with Dzingel last year or whenever.I think we’re already set in the overpaid fourth line winger department.
The difference is Dzingel was on an expiring deal with a cap hit that could be fully buried in the minors. Tolvanen is signed through 2024 for $1.45M/year. It's a bad bet. It's a low risk, high-reward move that we can pull it off financially. If it doesn't work, we waive him too, just like we did with Dzingel last year or whenever.
But, if the change of scenery works, he either is A) trade bait for literally anything, or B) someone to help the franchise next year. Aren't we always talking about having cap space to do these things?
Tolvanen has decent tools. His shot is definitely his best attribute. It’s also definitely one of those overrating because of draft pedigree but he also had some decent success overseas. From what I’ve seen Tolvanen has mostly been relegated to fourth line duties in the NHL and hasn’t had the best linemates in the AHL.As someone who hardly ever watches Nashville, is Tolvanen actually decent? Or is this just another case of overrating someone because of their draft pedigree? Looking over his stats in the AHL and NHL, seems like someone who might top out as an average third liner?
We no longer have the space with Suess, Cicek and Svechnikov recalled so looks like Grier agrees with you.Normally by age 23 you'd hope to see more from someone who went in Round 1 and played well before coming to NA. By the end of this season he'll be 24 and then 25 when his contract is up. Considering he is making 1.5M it is a little risky for a fringe guy.
Normally I would be all for it, considering there is upside there, but when we already have fringe guys like Lorentz making this money to barely play for us, I'm not sure we're the team for him.
Swing and a missLooking forward to 24 hours from now when 31 teams decline to acquire this “great asset” for free.
I’ll take the L on this one. It was more like 23 teams that passed on him given Seattle’s spot in the waiver order. Clearly they’re all run by idiots.Swing and a miss
