From what I’ve seen Tolvanen has mostly been relegated to fourth line duties in the NHL and hasn’t had the best linemates in the AHL.
That would explain Lindblom's season with the Sharks, to be fair. Not like he's impressed, but I'm still waiting for more than like half of the first game of the season for him to get a shot with any skilled guys, the likes of which he's actually contributed alongside in the past.

He was given time with Couture’s line and he was given a chance on the third line when he was pushed down to the fourth line. He has shown nothing to get a higher chance. He also had time in Philly on the first line, then dropped to the second, then the third, then was bought out.

Yep, wasn't a terrible buy low by Grier there but Lindblom blows...great story, crap player

You know i question whether it was even really a buy low. Dude got a raise (or the same amount or close to it). He was a buy out. On the Svechnikov contract or even just signed for a year, I would have loved it. I hated the contract at the time and hate it more now. You’re right though great story and not a good enough player.

Yeah, Lindblom will be soaking up cap space for another year, too (along with the Balcers buyout), for a guy who has been about as impactful as any warm body could have been.

I suppose we could buy him out next year - cap hit of $833,334 for two years, so not bad as long as we don't sign some other reclamation project to a similar contract.

He was given a whopping 12:31 of ice time with couture for the entire season. 8:19 with barabanov. 6:24 with meier. 12:03 with hertl.

He has not really gotten a chance within the top 6 to show he can play.

I don't think Lindblom's washed yet but he's had trouble gelling with this group for whatever reason. Hard to justify putting him in the top-6 when even guys like Bonino and Nieto are looking better up there than him.

He has barely even gotten a sniff of playing with the top lines. He has less then 1 game combined on the 1st and 2nd line of this team. If anyone expects him to just gell that quickly then there expectations are just a little to high.

If the team trades Karlsson to Edmonton, I’d expect Barrie, Ceci, Puljujarvi, and a 1st for Karlsson with about 2 mil retained and we send them a couple contracts so we’re under 50 like Hamaliuk and Ibragimov.

Lindblom hasn't flashed anywhere this season as far as I can tell. I straight up forget he's playing most of the time.
I can't tell you how many times I have had to look up his jersey # to remind me what player it is. I am a numbers guy.

If he was a food he would be white rice - the slightly undercooked, sticky and lukewarm kind that is not a memorable part of any meal.

The state of affairs on this team.. Jeez.

Hilarious to read so much whining about Lindblom being overpaid by a million or so on a two year deal while the Vlasic, Karlsson, Couture and Hertl contracts are among the worst in the league and won’t come off the books until 2026 at the earliest. It’s like complaining about stubbing your toe while suffering from a brain bleed.

Grier took a bunch of swings on depth players so the Sharks wouldn’t be stuck regularly icing career AHL level players like Dahlen, Gregor, Weatherby, Reedy, Chmelevski etc. like last year. Benning, Sturm and Lorentz have been home runs. Kunin has been better than expected. Lindblom and Nutivaara look like duds so far but it’s ridiculous to expect any team to bat 1.000 in that situation. None of these additions are on contracts that will hamstring the Sharks long term unlike his predecessor’s five year spending spree.

Whatever sort of thing you're trying to argue, this is what the reality is.

Cool, I’m guessing the Hertl contract expires at the end of this season? Or maybe it’s after next season? Just give me a minute to look that up.

Ah crap looks like he’s actually locked in at 8 million a year through 2030. Well at least there’s no chance he declines at all between now and age 37, becoming a noose around the neck of the next competitive Sharks team in the process. We should be way more concerned about Lindblom.

lol at Hertl's contract being a noose. Give me a break. Hertl will help the next competitive Sharks team if there is one in that time frame.

Exactly, We will hopefully draft our next 1C at this year’s draft. Hertl will shelter him by continuing to play 1C until he is ready to take the spot. Then Hertl will drop to 2C and take the tough matchups.

I don’t even think it’s just about helping the next competitive team. From all accounts, Hertl is a fantastic locker room presence and every shift he’s out there working his ass off. He’s one of the players that I think could teach our young guys a ton while also taking the top comp until they are ready.

A scorched earth rebuild sounds great in theory but it’s not one that really ever works without surrounding your young guys with vets. If it’s going to cost us anything to move some of these guys, then you keep them. We don’t need the cap space now. Honestly what I would love to do is something I got the idea of from soccer. There are teams that will give guys chances to establish themselves and show what they can do and then sell them off for a huge profit. I’d love to do that in SJ and I think Grier is doing that except the part where he buys garbage high. Lindblom, Kunin, Svechnikov, Nutivaara all fit what I’m thinking. Except Lindblom and Kunin got way too much money and term. Sign guys to one year contracts and give our young guys the chance to beat them out in training camp and throughout the year. If they beat them out, great the spot is yours and the other guy gets moved at the deadline or let go in the off-season.

Sounds good in theory but Hertl could easily be 34-35 years old by the time the team is ready to compete again by which point he is more likely to be an extremely overpaid 3C than a tough minutes 2C. It's just not realistic to expect him to maintain his current level of play for years to come which is why that contract was an insane one for the Sharks to commit to from the moment it was signed.

And at 34 or 35, he'll have two or three years left on his contract with a 15 team trade list where the team currently has no dead money, no Vlasic, and no Karlsson. They will be fine, chicken little.
