What’s Kaut’s intention or motive here? Like, you’re in a new situation. Youve moved on. Why are you trying to slander your former employer? Maybe he’s trying to create a narrative of why his career in the NHL never went anywhere. “Ive been treated so unfairly”.

It could just be that he is telling the truth... I am not sure of what exactly happened with Kaut and the coaches of the Cuda but I don't think it is fair to see outright that one side is slandering another until we have more information.

But on the other hand, Kaut really doesn't benefit from lying or exaggerating. Whereas there are a number of reasons why the Barracuda would want to deny the claims.

When it comes to Martin Kaut, I was happy to bring him here. I thought he could turn things around here. He did show some good stuff in the ice. Off the ice is a different story.
He complained about the Avalanche organization on his way out. Now he’s complaining on his way out from the Sharks.
I know nothing about the behind the scenes stuff but I know for a fact that he takes shots when someone is listening. He’s probably better off back at home.
I’ll add that quite a few players return home and they don’t say anything , they just go.

Yeah, I’d rather those players talk about things like being forced to fight at the sake of your career, though. I cheer for this team and it’s players and as such, i want them to treat those players with respect. Not to mention instilling these bizarre outdated ideas of how to play hockey.

He definitely complains a lot, but these complaints feel very specific and should be looked into.

He’s literally the only player, at least on record, to make these claims. Not saying one way or the other I believe the guy or the org. I just think for me at least, if there are whispers or other ways to substantiate this stuff it would be more believable. Unless Kaut was looked at as being groomed as the next Tom Wilson, why would they ask him to fight guys? as others have stated, that never was his calling card. Was it? Kinda wish this whole thing would go away honestly. If there was deliberate wrong doing, hold the people responsible. If this was a big misunderstanding, let’s just move on.

A lot of good barracuda players moved on this summer. If things were going so well I don’t think that happens.

Maybe Kaut is lying but that doesn’t mean there isn’t real issues in the org

Oh, totally agree. Good players moving on could be a variety of factors. The Cuda arent going to be very good. They need a new coaching staff which is evident.

I've not been a fan of McCarthy's first year, but I really do not care about this whole fighting news item in the big picture. If he gets removed, whatever, I'm good. Christ sake, even Kaut says it's not why he left, but people are still just so excited they have a new news item to begin the "omg fire everyone" jerk again. Yeah, apparently being asked to fight was so traumatic for Kaut that if we'd offered him more money he'd have signed back with us.

I'm guessing the Cuda eventually make some more moves because the forward group is considerably worse than last year at the moment. Agozzino apparently had reasons he wanted to be traded back to San Diego, but everyone else departing was just a free agent moving elsewhere, all for pretty explainable reasons. There's a lot of player movement in the AHL because nobody is signed for that long down here.

It was only 1 player when it came to the Blackhawks controversy also, guess that did not happen either.

Players, especially ones that still have careers within the league that the issues are coming from won't really rock the boat as there careers could be ruined by doing so.

The NHL has a long history of black balling players for speaking up against wrong doings against themselves.

The only vets I would've kept were Poulliot and Criscuolo and it seemed like Criscuolo wanted to stay if he could. Otherwise, this veteran AHL turnover seems pretty normal. I do think it's a weird story still because we've basically dropped all the facepunchers this team had except for maybe Johnson?

Yeah, exactly. People are scared to the rock the boat. I work in the entertainment industry— it’s the same here. There are awful people in sports, entertainment, business, etc. but it’s so hard to get ahead and make a living, you have to really put your career on the line to report wrongdoing.

Anyway, hopefully Grier has a talk with them. That said, I thought he should replace McCarthy last summer. If the focus is on development, get a legit, experienced coach who could teach and knows what he’s doing. Getting a new guy who has to learn on the job while also being tasked with shepherding along the new generation of Sharks players doesn’t make a ton of sense to me.

That said, Eklund, Guschin and to some extent Robins did well and grew over the course of the year, so maybe they’re okay. Or maybe those players are too good to be stunted, not sure.

Isn't that why we acquired Sabourin?

Criscuolo signed with NJ on day 1 of free agency on a 2-way that nets him $330k in the AHL. That is a very generous amount for someone on his level.

That's probably around the level of money Kaut wanted, too.

I'd have kept Pouliot but we're overcrowded at LHD as is.

Johnson is gone, yes.

I’m not worried about the turnover with the Cuda. Let’s face it, they were really bad last year. We have youth coming in goal with Chrona and Romanov joining Makiniemi. The defense has been completely revamped with Shakir, Thrun, Pulli, and Gawanke joining Cicek and some of our draft picks. The glaring problem is center. Robins is the only internal guy that looks like a center and he‘s pretty much a 4C. That changes if Bystedt plays for the Cuda or Bordeleau decides he wants to focus on defending otherwise we could have Carpenter, Todd, Russel down the middle. I’m sure Ryan would like to be the Sharks 4C and I don’t know anything about the other 2.

I am still hopeful that Mike will bring in the talent to ensure the Cuda are playing winning hockey instead of just gifting our prospects significant roles even if they don’t deserve them. I think it would be better for young players development to have to force their way up the lineup even at the AHL level.

Yeah there's still a lot of variables in play but the Cuda could still use a couple signings. The Sharks getting a 4C and forcing Carpenter down to the AHL would be nice, but there are still plenty of 1C options for the Cuda that're still available via FA. Some might not even cost an NHL contract slot. I really doubt Bystedt comes over to play in the AHL, but it'd be a pleasant surprise.

Robins mostly plays RW for us, though.

They could use a Suess replacement, and probably another scoring winger to make up for some of Eklund's production, since it's likely he starts next season in the NHL.

FWIW, Sabourin's getting even more @ 400k

Yeah, I don't know about that one. Going to reserve judgment on Sabourin til I see him in action but I'm skeptical.

With Criscuolo, though, 330k is almost as much as he earned for both years of his last contract combined. I'm just saying I fully understand why he signed that deal.

Me too but not everyone wants to be far from home and North Americans might struggle living somewhere so different where English isnt a first language
You could probably get by in Switzerland/Sweden/Germany as an NA expat without too much issue though.
