Myers is owed a $6M bonus on Sept 1. This season his actual salary is only $1M. Sharks want that paid first. So it is certainly possible that the trade happens after Sept 1.

The benefit to the Sharks is only having to actually pay $1M to a high cap hit guy.

I read somewhere that the deal fell through but you may be right.

If DW had been in charge, then 100% the deal would no longer be on the table once leaked. With Grier, let's see.

I'd totally put a waiver claim in on Zadina now that the Wings waived him.

If he turns it around and breaks out, the Sharks have a 23/24-year old useful roster player with high draft pick pedigree.

If he keeps sucking then it helps the tank.

They can't lose!

Zadina would be a good risk to take low risk, low/high reward. I'm all for trying it out if it's possible.

Drafting and team building wise I feel Sharks are going more or less towards New Jersey direction with W.Smith and W.Eklund being our Hughes and Bratt. Hopefully Bystedt can be our 2C or next years pick become either 1st/2nd line center or we draft a top 1-2 defencemen.

Also Musty and Halttunen are going the power forward route, so we have some of that in system also. Mukh, Thrun and Cagnoni have all room in the world to develop to impact defencemen, with Laroque and Havelid just little behind (because of injuries)

Things are looking good for now.

My new Sharks off-season plan to get them 5 firsts! Won’t happen but more fun to try!

Karlsson (3M retained) for Pesce, Teravainen, and Drury

Immediately flip Pesce to DAL/BUF/one of those other teams that needs a defensive RHD for their 24 1st (maybe tied to making the playoffs) and maybe something small.

Flip Labanc for Myers+4th

Start the season with:
Eklund-Hertl-Duclair
Peterson-Couture-Barabanov
Teravainen-Drury-Sturm
Kunin-Carpenter-Lindblom

Knzyhov-Myers
Thrun-Benning
Vlasic-Ferraro
Burroughs

Blackwood
Kahkonen

At the deadline we then have Barabanov, Duclair, Myers, Teravainen, Kahkonen as some guys who might have value/interest at the deadline.

We can probably play Teravainen off as a playoff performer (45 in 80 or something like that). Might be able to get a first from him. Going to say we will to bring us to 3 guaranteed firsts next year.

A package of Barabanov+Myers would probably bring us back a first as well at the deadline. Teams love their gritty bottom pairing D and Barabanov adds a really good middle 6 scoring option. That’s four!

Duclair we send to NJD to get them to take off their condition. That’s 5!

That’s very much wishful thinking and the Teravainen/Barabanov deals probably are overpayment but perhaps if Grier plays his cards right he can get that overpayment.

Don’t think they are getting much
Who can afford him ?
A whole lot of teams. Borgen is basically Megna and Driedger is useless now so you basically offered a first and second for the best offensive D in the league and are asking us to retain close to 3M. Add in another good prospect (talking Goyette or Evans) or that’s horrible.

K keep him cause no one can afford him
Then he gets hurt again. Just take advantage and move him out

EK 1st and Barbie 2nd, still gives the Sharks (2) 1sts and (2) 2nds. Which is fun mock drafting and standings watching again haha which is good enough for me

We’re not gonna get a massive return for EK. If I was doing my best Evander Kane impression I’d put money on a 1st in 24 or 25. 2 roster players(cap dump) and energy/locker room guy. And 2 solid B level prospects. We retain 25-30% max. Think Timo trade except that 1st shouldnt have conditions.

Yep exactly. That would also actually be 3 2nds if only Barabanov returned a 2nd because we have NJ’s 2nd or 1st depending on playoff success. I’d assume that Duclair would also return a 2nd.

No one is asking for a massive return. That trade that guy posted doesn’t come close to the Timo trade.

I’ll be begging the universe all day that we claim Zadina off waivers. Now thats a kid who needs a fresh start and some familiar faces in Hertl, Simek and Kaut. He’s a guy who could grow with this group and if he finds his offensive game again. Boom.

I believe (and very well could be wrong) that in the off-season waiver claim time goes back to noon eastern. Could know within the next hour or so. I do highly doubt he gets claimed though. I think there will be a mutual contract termination and then he will become a FA.

Without context, sure. But Myers is known garbage. Who's knocking at 3M (assuming 50% retention)?
Myers has a known garbage contract. He definitely has trade value on an expiring deal assuming the acquiring team can fit him under the cap via retention, prorated space, etc.

Labanc has a garbage contract and he's not a useful player on the ice.
