Anyone know anything about Kashnikov? Seems like he had a decent KHL season for a 6'6 20 year old

The little I've heard of him, people talk positively. Actually played some forward in the Q as well as D. As to KHL and in general, plays good in his own zone, but as his numbers show, the offense is not there.

He's got one more year in his KHL deal. You would think if he shows improvement, he'll get signed and have a chance to show what he can do in the A in 24-25. He is intriguing though.

The curve for a 6'6 d man has to be so much slower. Still seems promising for a late pick

(Was going to post this as a reply in the free agent frenzy thread, but it's going down an OT tangent)

I wish the Sharks in 23-24 would just ice a lineup full of their youngsters and prospects. That way, it's a total and complete tank (because you're icing a team that is less than NHL ready), but you can defend it as the "youth movement" while also giving your youth actual NHL time, and having them develop under AC Warsofsky. I feel better having the kids with Warsofsky than John McCarthy. They can also grow with him and have that be the core in place once Quinn is inevitably replaced down the line by Warsofsky. And this is a lot more interesting as a Sharks fan to watch than icing a team with the Kunin's, Lindblom's, Labanc's and Benning's of the world, even as the losses pile up:

(Dump/bury anyone not listed here, Karlsson traded of course and I'm not considering that a trade might yield 1 or 2 people to slot into here)

Eklund-Hertl-Barabanov
Duclair-Couture-Zetterlund
Peterson-Bordeleau-Kaut
Gushchin-Sturm-Coe (rotate in others from the Barracuda during the season like Cardwell and Robins)

Muk - Ferraro
Thrun - Havelid (Thrun's partner be the rotating door from the Barracuda)
Vlasic - Burroughs

Chrona/Makiniemi as starter (whoever wins out at camp), with a 55/45 split with Blackwood
Blackwood

Bystedt play with the Cuda this year
The sharks basically did this prior to grier and ya we were horrible but this does nothing for the young players. Not only do you develop these guys in a losing culture you hand them roles they are not ready for and hope they stick, historically this is the number 1 way to destroy a players development we need veteran depth to hold spots down so are prospects can integrate naturally by winning spots while also not getting to good to block these guys from oppurtunity. This off season should be focused on building the ahl culture up so we can improve our in house development so we can not only develop this batch of guys but keep it going into the competitive window

Edited: Gawanke replacing Havelid
Thrun-Gawanke would be a VERY intriguing pair

I think Bordeleau, Guschin and Robins will all have a chance to make the team at camp - with Guschin probably having the highest chance of making the lineup on Couture’s line if he keeps up his play from last year.

I think we’ll be seeing a lot of our almost-ready prospects this year for sure. I mean, we have no one else to bring up in case of injuries so…!

I think the AHL. He’ll get 20 minutes a night there. Working in all situations
Sounds smart, I hope his teamates keep him company As His first run in the AHL during the playoffs left him feel homesick and a bit out of his depth.

Just checked though and it seems you have a couple other Russian players with the Barracuda team so he should be fine.

Unfortunately, one was just traded away yesterday.

The last few years of the DW era I was shocked at how little competition there was for roster spots and a good season basically depended on every single prospect playing out of their minds and going way above and beyond their potential

Without context, sure. But Myers is known garbage. Who's knocking at 3M (assuming 50% retention)?
I do think Myers would get more than Labanc at the TDL because of position. Labanc needs to be in a sheltered scoring position to succeed. Generally teams have players better than him in those positions. RHD are always in demand. Myers is definitely overpaid but in a bottom pairing role he would definitely look good. He always provides a bit of offense and puck movement that most of the other guys his size don’t.

Now don’t get me wrong I’m talking a 3rd vs a 5th or something like that and I wouldn’t do that deal straight up. But if VAN threw in a 3rd, I’d do it. I do think Labanc is better than Myers but that size is just hard to come by. If they won’t add the pick, I’d put him on L3 and then move one of Barabanov or Duclair and earlier than the deadline. Give Labanc those opportunities and sell him for whatever at the deadline.

My question is why did they have a deal done and then dropped it? Nothing’s changed that I can tell, unless Myers was supposed to take Karlsson’s spot (so sad) but an EK deal isn’t looking as good as it was?

Probably wont last too long. Grier is really looking to have a very american (NCAA) system in place

Myers is owed a $6M bonus on Sept 1. This season his actual salary is only $1M. Sharks want that paid first. So it is certainly possible that the trade happens after Sept 1.

The benefit to the Sharks is only having to actually pay $1M to a high cap hit guy.
