I would probably do it - Cooley + Benson > Smith

Need to add Lindstein or someone as 36 is included.

Regardless, Cooley+12 would be a nice pickup if we aren’t willing to draft Michkov.

Get a Smith-level prospect who’s a year further along and a top 12 pick. 12 will have a really nice player available. While it’s wide ranging, I feel like there is some consensus that there are drops at 1/4/5/8/11 or 12/16.

I think the Coyotes are giving up too much value in a vacuum, but with him potentially not keen on the arena situation, maybe they’d like a fresh start.

I think they’d pass.

The Hayes trade is not a good precedent for value of overpaid players and salary retention.

I doubt anyone will seriously compare the Hayes trade with any theoretical trade involving EK65. EK65 just won a Norris and is coming off a 100 point season. Hayes was never good at any point in his career.

It’s not just EK. It affects the value of potentially moving Couture or Hertl.

Hayes at 3.65 mil per year is a positive value contract that STL got for free.

All these teams making moves, For once it would be nice if we got ahead of the game and made proactive moves instead of reactionary.

Kevin Hayes was making slightly less than Logan and has never had more than 54 points in a season.
Had 55 in 71 games in 2018-19. He's a good player. Not elite, but is good value for that contract that STL got him with. Should be a solid top 6 forward for them with size and positional flexibility (C/W).

Maybe. But he's not even close to the player Logan is.

What proactive move other than Karlsson? None of the teams making moves are suitors for the pieces that we have to offer up. Winnipeg for guys like Ferraro or Labanc is the only team making deals that has a fit for SJ.

I mean moving pieces. No one expects half of these guys to move, but there's always moves to be made.

Look what Newook got! Two picks in the 30s in a very strong draft....

And a stellar pickup from St. Louis as well. Hopefully Grier can show everyone up!

Eh, ES points per 60 the last 4 years is Hayes (1.9, 1.8, 2.3, 1.9) and Couture (2.4, 1.8, 1.9, 2.4). Couture is a little better, but is also 3 years older and has another year on his contract compared to Hayes. If that is what the return is for Hayes, then Couture is probably going to net us peanuts as well.

I think with retention, his playoff resume and the fact that he's still putting up near 30 goal seasons playing on a second line with Goober McTwoLeftFeet and Danny ScrubOfTheWeek tells me he's got value with commodity.

Depends if the team wants Logan for the regular season production or if they want if the post season. Logan has proven himself to be a playoff performer. Hayes has not.

So Seattle seemingly has reached out to the sharks about Karl. Realistically what would a trade with the Kraken look like?

They have the cap space to take on his whole contract with no retention which would obviously lower potential return.

Soucey is leaving Seattle in FA. I’ve said all along that they make the most sense for Karlsson.
It depends on how the Dunn and Borgen contracts shake out. If we get the likes of Karlsson trading either of them would not be a big deal BUT I don't think the type of game Karlsson plays aligns with what Francis wants from this team.

Its really not that much to do with Soucy though. We always knew he was going to be gone. We have Evans who is very likely to start in the NHL and also Megna as our #7D.

This would be a spot where Couture would make sense. Coyle is their only center right now and the rest of their group is in go for it mode.

With retention it would be a perfect spot. Take back Mike Reilly for the year and retain 20% would probably be the most ideal scenario.
