If Dustin Brown is the peak of what the Sharks come away with this year, it might be another 10 years until we see hockey in May.
We’ll have another high pick next draft and the next and probably the draft after that too. There will be more opportunities to find our Kopitar and Doughty.

They definitely shouldn’t do anything with #4 until the Jackets pick is in. It doesn’t sound like Ryan Leonard plays anything like his brother. He has the potential to have a Dustin Brown type of career which IMO is a great outcome at #4 or #7 in any draft.
Yeah I probably wouldn't consider trading down until I know who's at our pick. Who knows, we could be deciding between Carlsson or Michkov. I also think Leonard is a fantastic prospect but man does Smith get underrated around here.

Yeah Leonard has the better motor and his compete is sure to drive GMs crazy, but Smith's hands and IQ are certified elite. You don't build around a Leonard. You build around a Smith.

I guess I'm just not convinced a team built around Will Smith would be any good. Smith and Leonard both look like great complementary pieces.

But there are 4 players in this draft that can have a team built around them when some drafts (last year) have zero. Good thing we have the 4th pick. GMMG just don’t mess this up.

I agree with you but we both know the Sharks aren't drafting Michkov.

If they finish their most pathetic season in history with not even the best player of the second tier that would be absolutely heartbreaking.

Couple steps below Smith, but Smith is like 5 steps below Michkov and 2 or 3 behind Carlsson/Fantilli. I'd rather have Grier just trade the pick for a 23 Y/O current NHLer or something if they were to get 7. I don't see why the organization wouldn't learn from the mistake of drafting his brother. Would make absolutely no sense. MG shouldn't move this pick until it's on the clock.
Personally id be trying to get Cooley outta ARZ for 4 with his recent comments,

Hmm. Cooley + 12 for 4 + 36? Would give Arizona 4 and 6 in this draft. Who says no?
Cooley took huge strides his D+1 year, but imo everyone in the consensus top 5 this year is a tier above him in their draft years. Cooley might be the safer choice now that he's looking like a stud, though. It's always a great signs seeing highly touted prospects take major steps in their development. For that reason, and the fact that teams are always more reluctant to trade prospects than picks, I think Arizona might pass. Pretty close in value, though.

What comments?

Ultimately, whatever happens we're all going to have strong reactions to it. But you have to let the situation roll out...especially since so many new guys are making the decisions.

If you get a good interview with Michkov and Sharks are sure he is going to be the future, then draft him by all means. But I think the depth of this draft is a good reason to have as many picks as you can in the 1st round and having more chances to draft a solid group. Easily could see this draft being the one of the more important ones once we are in the playoff picture again.
Grier has already shown this to be his mentality so I agree with you. Grier wants multiple lottery tickets, not just one good one. Look at the burns trade, bringing in 3 pieces. Look at the Timo trade bringing 6 pieces. He wants many lotto tickets. I see a strong possibility of Grier getting more picks and prospects. He even did that last year moving down in round 1.

They're rumored to be shopping some RHD from the NHL roster. Peeke most likely, but Boqvist rumored as well with Severson onboard now and Jiricek needing a spot. They also have a ton of young wingers that Grier could probably use to help accelerate the rebuild rather than drafting those guys.
I wouldn’t hate a trade of Hertl for Boqvist and more

I don't think it's more lottery picks, it's just more pieces so he can build the team he wants. He clearly wants to overhaul the roster and needs bodies for that...

Here is some past draft data for reference since the 7th + 22nd OA + for our 4th is being discussed:

4th OAs from 2021 - 2006 courtesy of HockeyDB

2021: Luke Hughes
2020: Lucas Raymond
2019: Bowen Byram
2018: Brady Tkachuk
2017: Cale Makar
2016: Jesse Puljujarvi
2015: Mitch Marner
2014: Sam Bennett
2013: Seth Jones
2012: Griffin Reinhart
2011: Adam Larsson
2010: Ryan Johansen
2009: Evander Kane
2008: Alex Pietrangelo
2007: Thomas Hickey
2006: Nicklas Backstrom

7th OAs from 2021 - 2006

2021 William Eklund
2020 Alexander Holtz
2019 Dylan Cozens
2018 Quinn Hughes
2017 Lias Andersson
2016 Clayton Keller
2015 Ivan Provorov
2014 Haydn Fleury
2013 Darnell Nurse
2012 Matt Dumba
2011 Mark Scheifele
2010 Jeff Skinner
2009 Nazem Kadri
2008 Colin Wilson
2007 Jakub Voracek
2006 Kyle Okposo

22nd OAs from 2021 - 2006

2021 Xavier Bourgault
2020 Hendrix Lapierre
2019 Tobias Bjornfot
2018 K’Andre Miller
2017 Kailer Yamamoto
2016 German Rubstov
2015 Ilya Samsonov
2014 Kasperi Kapanen
2013 Emile Poirier
2012 Olli Maata
2011 Tyler Biggs
2010 Jarred Tindori
2009 Jordan Schroeder
2008 Jordan Eberle
2007 Max Pacioretty
2006 Claude Giroux

Some really strong picks at 7th OA, including future 1st ballot HoFer William Eklund. 2006 - 2008 had an insane run of 22nd OA picks. Interestingly, it's the dmen that stand out most at 4OA—Makar, Pietrangelo, Jones, Byram. Yes, there are a million variables, but it's a fun list dissect. Personally, I lean toward keeping our 4th OA, but I can absolutely see the argument for trading down.

There's no way you could possibly be even the slightest bit incorrect in this evaluation, is that right?
