What about Hertl at 50% + 26 for 3?

Draft Carlsson/Fantilli then trade back with MTL 4 for 5 + 31 and draft Michkov.

Carlsson and Michkov from a single draft is a dream.
You're asking the Sharks to pay 28 million over 4 years and lose a good player just to move up from the late first to #3?

I feel like it's time to work on the phone with Montreal for that extra 31 pick for swapping 4 to 5.
I like Philly 7 & 22 too, but let's see.

I will say, a part of me worries that 15 years down the road, when Michkov has his tenth consecutive 50 goal season, if we let another one get away.

No it’s paying $28 million in retention to move from 26 to 3. Then the sharks would have 3 and 4.

Columbus gets a 1/2 C at $4 million for them to compete now.

Sharks would have $4 in dead cap for 7 years but with not competing for 3 years and then cap increases it shouldn’t hurt the sharks much.

I hope with all these teams talking about getting into the top 5 to draft Michkov either Grier creates a bidding war and gets 6 and 12 for 4 or he smarts up and realizes Michkov is the correct pick in the first place and just takes him at 4.

The only reason to move down to 7 is to get value and still draft Michkov.

Having a top 4 pick they should grab one of Fantilli/Carlsson/Michkov. The drop off after those 3 is huge. Otherwise what was the point of losing all those games.

If you get a good interview with Michkov and Sharks are sure he is going to be the future, then draft him by all means. But I think the depth of this draft is a good reason to have as many picks as you can in the 1st round and having more chances to draft a solid group. Easily could see this draft being the one of the more important ones once we are in the playoff picture again.

For some reason, I put 4 years instead of 7, but in any case, you're asking to retain 28 million over 7 years in order to move from the late first to the #3. That's a giant ask of Plattner. More than anything, you also tie up a contract retention slot for 7 years.

They'd still have their 4 OA, correct? If Leonard is the best player they come out of this draft with Grier shouldn't even be fired, he should be banned from holding a hockey position for life.
No, we'd would have traded it to Philly

If they finish their most pathetic season in history with not even the best player of the second tier that would be absolutely heartbreaking.

Is Leonard really any worse than Smith?
Couple steps below Smith, but Smith is like 5 steps below Michkov and 2 or 3 behind Carlsson/Fantilli. I'd rather have Grier just trade the pick for a 23 Y/O current NHLer or something if they were to get 7. I don't see why the organization wouldn't learn from the mistake of drafting his brother. Would make absolutely no sense. MG shouldn't move this pick until it's on the clock.

Absolutely the Sharks don't make any trade until are on the clock

They definitely shouldn’t do anything with #4 until the Jackets pick is in. It doesn’t sound like Ryan Leonard plays anything like his brother. He has the potential to have a Dustin Brown type of career which IMO is a great outcome at #4 or #7 in any draft.

If Dustin Brown is the peak of what the Sharks come away with this year, it might be another 10 years until we see hockey in May.
