I like PIT as a landing spot for Karl, FLA as well. Those teams should be doing everything they can to win now, PIT in particular. Would be masterful if PIT could pull off getting Karl and Hellebuyck while dumping all their picks, Granlund, and Petry.

With all the talk about draft (who the Sharks prefer, who will be available, Montreal wanting to move up) and the EK65 trade rumors, we are in for an exciting time.

While not forgetting Bedard going to Chicago and the Cup going to Vegas. Grier going for a reach with each pick and failing to move EK65. And signing some vets to questionable deals on the first of July. :sarcasm:

It just doesn't satisfy my want for a 1st in this year's draft from a Karl trade. I need (nearly) instant draft pick gratification after pretty much an entire year of everyone going on and on about how awesome and deep this year's draft is. This draft is all I've rooted for all year. If we're shipping Karl I hope for something in this year's first round as part of the return, especially with retention.

Florida just has no 1st round picks this year and I do not like this, I do not like this at all. I’m not familiar with their prospects though, if they have someone 1st round-like, might be interesting.

Another team I could maybe see trying to get Karlsson is the Capitals, to give Ovie another run. But I’m honestly not sure he waives for them.

Capitals are apparently looking to trade Kuznetsov, I'm not sure they'd be too interested in adding Karlsson. They're not in the best situation to be honest, I'm sure they want to provide Ovechkin with the best supporting cast possible to try and break the goal scoring record, but a rebuild looms very close.

I think that's what makes Pitt so interesting. Washington is on the downswing and they really just want to get OV the record. They've said that. But Pitt is on the downswing and wants to win one more with Crosby Malkin Letang.

If Karl takes the defensive reigns, Letang can play a reduced minutes/higher impact-per-shift role. And if you're worried about depth scoring, consider what Karl did with the Sharks this year.

If I was Karlsson, I’d be worried Pittsburgh was the Sharks when he joined - possibly capable of one last run but right about to collapse. I’d probably still waive if they were the only option but I’d be wary.

EK’s not waiving his NMC for Detroit. I seriously doubt Yzerman would put 9th overall on the table for a 32 year old dman either. Wings are still a terrible team that got worse at the deadline.
I think he would for Detroit. Hockey city that is closer to wifey's family in Ottawa and has a core that is ready to start winning soon. Also have ample cap space to continue to build around said young core and himself. It won't be with 9th overall on the table, but 17th overall would assuredly be in play for him.

Yeah it would definitely be 17th. Kind of a tangential note but what even is Detroit’s core? They’ve got a Hertl level center in Larkin who’s barely even younger than Hertl, Raymond who’s coming off a disappointing year and Seider who’s a legit stud. No goaltending, one potentially elite prospect in Edvinsson and that’s about it. That team looks like it’s going nowhere.

I'd say Seider, Larkin, Raymond, Edvinsson, Kasper, Wallinder, and Berggren are their "young" core. Then they also have a quality prime aged 2/3 C in Copp and 3/4C in Zadina. I think Larkin, Copp, Kasper, Zadina would be strong down the middle in 2 years. I'd expect them to be a big suitor on some of the UFA forwards this go around with all of that cap space (plus probably some gems on account of Yzerman scouting being elite at the backend of drafts).

Whether it be Karlsson or another move, I'd expect Yzerman to be aggressive and make a lot of moves to get them into the playoffs next year. 7 years of no playoffs is too long for a guy that has built Cup winners and been apart of the history they have in DET.

I like Lombardi a lot but he seems more of a bottom sixer. They have picked a ton (like 40 picks in 4 years) since Yzerman got hired in 2019. They mostly are hitting on adding core pieces, but still haven't found a true superstar yet. Seems like a sad rebuild.

Always a risk when you attempt a rebuild without getting the ping pong ball bounces. Easy to say now in hindsight but they probably should have moved futures for Eichel and tried to build around Eichel, Larkin, Bertuzzi and Raymond up front alongside Seider.

I’m not sure Buffalo would have wanted to trade him in division.

If you should judge by the kicking of Erik Karlssons's tires, what kind of return would be realistic? Say if Sharks bite a third of the cap hit?

Joshua Norris and Erik Brännström?

I think 17 starts with only 25% retention. If they want more that has to change to 9.

But do they think that is the better question while Vegas is prancing around with a cup
Well they’re already getting more from the draft picks than Vegas has in all 6 years. Francis seems intent on developing his young stars and building a team made for long term success. Vegas was desperate because no one knows what the fanbase will look like if things go sour.

Honestly, 20 + 57 + Ty Nelson + Driedger from Seattle for Karlsson at 2 million retained makes a lot of sense. Seattle and Buffalo are two teams who have capspace and assets to acquire Karlsson.
id be giddy with just the picks and Driedger. Who’s this Ty Nelson kid?
