And there it is. This is why it never made sense to hold Timo until the summer. His agent has clearly been using the 10M QO as a hammer in negotiations, as he should. Someone will meet Timo’s demand for a long term deal in the 9’s but I’m not sure it will be NJ and good luck to them getting value back in a trade at this point.

I just don’t see it from a florida standpoint. Having Bob and Erik on the same team seems like suicide. If either resorts back to their previous ways (suck or injury prone) then the team is screwed.
Maybe but some teams are willing to take that risk if they feel like they're that close.

Meh. I feel Vegas exposed multiple Florida problems, from scoring depth up front to smart defense on the backend. Now perhaps the two are correlated and what Karlsson brings helps the forwards and allows the defense to not have to be so aggressive, but he also could very well magnify each problem as well. Merely replacing montour for him while also losing young forwards ultimately puts too much pressure on Lundell to evolve into an upper-level top 6 player.

Sharks would need it to be a three team deal and potentially also have Luostarinen included. SJ carries all of the risk if Montour gets hurt and can't be flipped for TDL assets. Better to launder Montour through to someone like Dallas for their 1st rounder.

To SJ - 2024 DAL 1st, 2023 FLA 2nd, Luostarinen, Faksa
To FLA - Karlsson ($3.5M retained), DAL 5th
To DAL - Montour, SJ 7th

I get that you have a hate boner for EK65, but return like this for EK65 will get any of the NHL's 32 GM's fired instantly.

Timo trade was an absolute fleecing by Mike Grier. It’s going to end up being a 1st, a top 50 league wide prospect who was also drafted in the 1st and a 2nd that could turn into a 1st for 1.2 seasons of Timo Meier.

Maybe Lemieux defined "serious" as "starting at the QO and working upwards"?
IMO serious is anything matching Hertl's contract... I always assumed that would be the sharks take-it-or-leave-it offer knowing Timo would decline

If EK wants a trade just do EK (50%) for 9th overall with Detroit straight up.
I’ve been thinking that Detroit makes some sense. Not sure where they are in their timeline in contending again. Would think they’d maybe make more sense at the deadline when they know for sure they’re going for it. Could be completely off though. 9th plus they hold three 2nd rd picks in this years draft. What about 17th OA plus the 41st and 42nd pick? I mean, you’re walking into day 1 of the draft with three picks in the first and the same on day 2. Not too shabby even if you retain quite a bit.

EK’s not waiving his NMC for Detroit. I seriously doubt Yzerman would put 9th overall on the table for a 32 year old dman either. Wings are still a terrible team that got worse at the deadline.

Of course the Sharks and EK65 are on the same page.

Sharks "hey Erik, some teams might want to trade for you, but we fully intend to keep you unless it's a serious overpayment."

EK65: "fr fr"

Except that's not even close to what was reported.

EK to the Leafs at 30% ret
Murray Knies and 28th.
Ot leaves the Leafs the ability to bring in another team's to help with retention
