Farabee seems to be a slightly more skilled Donato, and I would think that would be an easy pass, at least from Grier. I really hope this offseason Grier doesn't focus on adding more depth players. I LOVE Jordan Spence though, and I think him or most of the players you suggested would be solid targets, but I think LA has high hopes for him and they wouldn't even think to trade him to SJ anyways. I think he's replacing Durzi. I'm a big fan of player swaps though (Merk-Kaut, Suomela-Barabanov). I would be totally down for a Bordeleau-Spence swap with all of the DFD-TWD the Sharks have added, so I hope Grier continues to go that route to add instead of pick trading or even FA signings. I hope they don't sign anyone this offseason even on D.

This was the real tank year, they'll be bad next year and the year after but next year should be all about really seeing what's in the organization already, even as weak as some places are, and trying not to commit to more Lindblom and Benning mistakes. Guys like Muk/Thrun if he signs should 100% not spend a single game in the AHL next year.
Couple thoughts here but I don’t think you’re wrong with anything here:

I don’t think Farabee is quite a slightly more skilled Donato (unless we are talking about Donato now). Farabee is a pretty good power forward type player. Second line ideally.

I think LA would definitely want to keep Spence and I don’t think they’d move him for Bordeleau (just based on positional need). I’d try to do something around one of our LHD although I’m not quite sure if there’s a deal there just because of difference of values.

I agree though. I hope we don’t sign more Bennings, Lindbloms, or even Sturms. If we are signing vets, I wouldn’t really go over a 1 year deal. I’d overpay a bit on money to get them to sign but only for one year.

The way Hertl plays this year makes you wonder if he regretted signing that extension. If all was equal Quinn would be scratching him just like he did with Labanc for all the dumb plays he's been making lately.

If that's the case he should ask to be traded - Moving the contract and getting something in return would be awesome.

Well that is why all is not equal. Grier said months ago that every player was on the table to be traded but Hertl, who will probably be the next captain.

It must have been annoying for Labanc knowing there were worse players being scratched who were actually playing worse, like Lindblom.

Short-term (3-4 years) pain for long-term gain (10+ years of success with the next core). This is the way.
My gf {Rangers fan - seconding need for vomit emote} gives me crap every time I root for a loss but enjoy an exciting game… tried to explain short term hell for long term plans… doesn’t make sense to her lol

Geezus another forward?! I dont want to prioritize spending assets on another forward, especially if we trade Karlsson. We're gonna get a good forward in the draft and we should focus our eyes on defensemen.
Our forward group still sucks, particularly down the LW. It's Eklund and then who else? 23 year old that is signed to a reasonable contract (albeit on the risky side given his down year with a crap coach) through his age 27-28 season (aka basically the bulk of his prime years and time where Eklund and Bedard/Fantili/Carlson will be on ELCs).

I'm not saying that defense isn't in bad shape, but there are options if you trade Karlsson to Edmonton. For one, Bouchard would be in the package coming back. Then sign a Severson or someone like that and then focus on drafting a RHD for the future. Look around the league and there are not that many good RHD and even fine ones like Hronek cost a mid-1st round pick plus 2nd.

No, because unlike Labanc Hertl actually produces points.

The Rangers literally wrote a letter to the fans telling them they're rebuilding lol
Because it wasn't apparent by their standings results haha. They got to finish in the middle of the lottery twice and get gifted lottery picks 2 out of 3 years. More likely for us to miss out on the top 4 than get the nonsensical lottery luck that NJD, NYR, PHI, MTL and CHI have conveniently gotten the last few years.

The very next transaction he did after saying that was signing a hulking defenseman! Show me, don't tell me, etc.

I mean, the trade deadline has passed, and UfA is still a ways off. There’s only so many options to make at this point in time. It’s not incongruous for him to say what he said and make the signing.
