13 games for Zetterlund as a Shark - Anyone feel better/worse about him?

Frankly, I prefer Eyssimont’s game over Zetterlund so far. Devils fans said we’d like Zetterlund’s motor, physicality, and that he had some skill. IMO he hasn’t proven better than Eyssimont in any of those areas, except maybe in small flashes.

He has 21 more points than the next closest D. He’d easily get over 10. If Dougie Hamilton can get 9, EK easily gets over 10.
Dougie Hamilton was five years younger, had a better recent track record of health, and wasn't really all that far back of Karlsson in terms of overall value, if he even was (certainly Karlsson was better in his "contract year").

Hamilton was almost certainly a much more valuable asset than Karlsson hypothetically would be. Karlsson would probably still get a very high cap hit, but over many fewer seasons and thus a less valuable overall contract.

Hamilton had one season that he wasn’t considered a locker room cancer. He didn’t have a single season at a PPG. The only reason he was seen as kind of good defensively is because of Slavin.

Karlsson is WAY better right now than Hamilton ever has been.

As Grier said, “You still have to fill out the team”. He’s been a good tank replacement for Timo.

The fact that some NJD fans thought Zetterlund was untouchable shows how delusional a portion of them are.
Devils fans coming in here to agree. The meat of the trade for you guys is the potentially 2 1st round picks and Mukh's potential.

I do think context matters. He wouldn’t be allowed to roam as aggressively as he is here. He would need to be a little more defensively responsible.

EK's best ever overall season was under Guy Boucher, where he was good defensively and still put up 71 in 77 without a true top end forward. Give him a better partner, better coach with a better defensive system, and more than one top level goal scorer and he would still be PPG. Say he gets traded to Edmonton. His partner would be Ekholm/Nurse, having McDrai means more of his passes would be finished (not to mention two elite playmakers who would get him the puck in better spots too), and just having a better team overall means it would be simpler to get and keep the puck in the offensive zone.

In 2011-12 he was 25 points ahead of the next D and he was deployed less aggressively than he has been this season.

Spitballing, here...

Jeremy Swayman offer sheet in the summer. 4 years, $3.85m per. Compensation is an SJS 2023 second rounder (presently about 35th overall). Boston has no draft pick in the top 2 rounds of the next two drafts.

Yay? Nay?

(For what it's worth, yes, I think Swayman has the chance to be a franchise/No.1 goaltender...)

At that amount the Bruin don't match?

I think itd be a 2024 2nd since it'd be after the draft. I don't think hed sign it with that kind of term. Too team friendly

Ullmark is their guy. They probably won't want to spend nearly 4M AAV on a backup.
I'd match it and then trade him off. He'd be a steal locked up for term at that price
If the Sharks want him they need to trade for him

It would be a 2024 2nd rounder that I’m sure Boston would match. It would be more fruitful to figure out a trade there if we’re identifying Swayman as our goalie for the future. I’m not ready to seek out a goalie personally unless it happens internally.

I love that Quinn defended Karlsson's plus minus number by mentioning the empty net goals. So many voters are going to look at his plus minus and decide not to vote for him when in reality he's basically been an even player on an awful team (-1 without ENG).
