GMMG has been quoted as saying they’ve brought in enough of the “hard players “ and it’s time to bring in some skill.
I’m actually kind of liking GMMGs vision now.

Hasso wouldn’t sign off on a rebuild, wanted one more kick at the can. So Grier brings in a bunch of “locker room”, established NHL players that don’t cost much in futures.

Shows to Hasso that the core is rotten, not the depth players. Gets the OK at rebuilding while also insulating the young kids from playing on a tank team.

Our forward group still sucks, particularly down the LW. It's Eklund and then who else? 23 year old that is signed to a reasonable contract (albeit on the risky side given his down year with a crap coach) through his age 27-28 season (aka basically the bulk of his prime years and time where Eklund and Bedard/Fantili/Carlson will be on ELCs).

I'm not saying that defense isn't in bad shape, but there are options if you trade Karlsson to Edmonton. For one, Bouchard would be in the package coming back. Then sign a Severson or someone like that and then focus on drafting a RHD for the future. Look around the league and there are not that many good RHD and even fine ones like Hronek cost a mid-1st round pick plus 2nd.

Who is this 23 year old LW signed for another few years? Hertl and Couture are the only guys signed past 23-24 right now?

Yeah I know, I was trying to make a joke that they are all boring.
When it was JD and Kyle… can’t remember who is who…. now it’s just the one guy who has much less charisma and the show isn’t nearly as enjoyable. Before there was at least some fun banter between the two.

Exactly. I appreciate the effort JD still puts in, but its obvious he has never played hockey, and just started following the sport a few years ago. He also just talks awkwardly, saying stuff like "so" or "type of situation" every 2 minutes, and that doesn't help the fact he is a solo host of the podcast.

That said, he's better solo than having to listen to Kyle Demetrius literally say anything. Locked On messed up allowing Kyle to be the one that stayed on board when there were 3 hosts. Had Eric? (FowleBall15 on twitter that used to be a host) and JD ran the show (ditching Kyle) and it never morphed into the idiocy of not data and no knowledge and stupid childish humor that Kyle turned it into, the show could probably be pretty decent now.

Agreed. Kyle was an idiot. I remember one time last year he bragged about sleeping with a girl the night before...it's like cmon buddy you're 30 on a hockey podcast and this is what youre talking about.

He got booted from FTF after he tried to swoop in and become the guy there after The Neutral stepped down back in the day. Then something nefarious from his past came up and he had to quit. Not sure how he got the Locked On gig with those circumstances. If you can't even be hired by SB Nation from something in your past, that's bad. They'll hire anyone to work there and not get paid.

Little offtopic: Since there is conversation about Sharks podcasts, what's your podcast favorite to listen?

I've really liked all of them, because they all bring something different.

I would say Teal Town USA has always been my favorite, whole crew has pretty good takes and knowledge about the team, specially a shout out to Ian, he has really helped coping with tanking season that Sharks have had. All the guys bring something to the table though.

Fin Factor has been refreshing with the more optimistic view than usual about Sharks, helps keep the hope up.

13 games for Zetterlund as a Shark - Anyone feel better/worse about him?
As Grier said, “You still have to fill out the team”. He’s been a good tank replacement for Timo.

The fact that some NJD fans thought Zetterlund was untouchable shows how delusional a portion of them are.

Those same fans wouldn't want to trade for Zetterlund the minute after he was traded for Meier.

I think he’s looked better the last game or two or at least shown flashes. Definitely worse than expected though. I don’t think it’s at the point of not signing him this year though.
Team checked out basically the moment the TDL passed. Withholding any real judgment on guys coming up late in the season on a myopic roster with nothing to play for and knowing the whole fanbase is rooting for them to lose as many games as possible now. Tough situation to come into as a rookie who was playing meaningful minutes for a top 5 team in the league a month ago. See how he does after a full offseason to get acclimated.

But he was traded for Meier and, well, you know, he’s a bust. He also doesn’t… oh, never mind. I don’t do sarcasm well.

I mean I fully agree. I’d love to give him a chance as the F1 with Eklund and Hertl next year again.

I have said it before, but I would rather lose on a EK65 trade then keep him, even if we get Bedard. If everything works out and EK65 has a similar season, maybe we are a fringe wildcard team? But what do we expect from Erik at 35 years old, and 36 years old? Being stuck with that contract when we aren't going to be contenders is a mistake IMO. Get some assets for him while bottoming out for a couple more years is the way to go.

EK65 made a comment that he was never even approached about waiving the NMC so I'm assuming no deals ever got close...

I think speculation was the retention being asked was a non-starter, so Edmonton was probably like "you retain 50% and we'll do you a favor and take $5.75M off your hands, call it even?" and GMMG told them to go f*** themselves
