I honestly think Erik will go anywhere that he thinks has a chance to compete for a cup. I dont see his NMC interfering with that at all at this point in his career.

100% agree. I think anywhere that has a better outlook than here will be just fine by him. The only way I see him being willing to stay is if we get Bedard and Grier tries to speed up the rebuild with Erik as one of the key players…

But I don’t think any of that is actually going to happen.

Gogolev's contract was terminated. Wonder if he'd be worth a look with the Cuda. Wasn't he supposed to maybe be okay? Barabanov-reclamation project?!

Gogolev is a good shooter and not much else. More of a wait by the blueline type, hope to get the puck on a breakaway and score. At least in juniors. Had seen him in his draft year and liked him just because he's got great finishing ability, but to be honest haven't seen much since he's moved around levels.

He might, but given his family, he may restrict the options somewhat. But it won't be a 3 team list, rather if 12 teams likely to make play offs, he may eliminate 3-4 teams from that list.
From the next 8 teams that are seen as solid teams challenging to make the playoffs, he may accept half of them. That should hopefully end up giving Grier enough potential homes to get a decent deal that works out for all parties.
We know 18% retention was rumored, but may Grier will do 25% instead and get a better return instead.

Per Sheng, someone made a legit offer for Ferraro. I hope it gets revisited in the offseason as I feel like Ferraro is the expendable one that affords the team the most flexibility moving forward. They need a spot on the left side that can be given to Muk or Thrun if they're ready and while Ferraro has a great motor and is willing to block shots, he's just a bad hockey player on the whole of it. They would be better with either of them in his spot.

I guess it depends on what the offer was. If it was, like, another wacky conditional 3rd contingent on yet another team making a conference final then I'd pass.

I mean, we laugh about the price of someone like Fabbro and he's undoubtedly better than Ferraro, so that's probably what I'd expect. If I'm a fan of another team I certainly would be pissed if my team traded more than a 3rd for Ferraro, especially with that contract. I would certainly do a Ferraro-Fabbro swap in the offseason though.

The only offers I would decline are those that involve a worse contract coming back provided that there's no additional compensation for doing so. If a team forked over a conditional 3rd round pick, I would've taken it. Not that the pick is super valuable or anything but moving 3 mil more in cap when we have a good chance that someone like Muk or Thrun may need a lineup spot is just good planning for the future when the other lineup options are Knyzhov (who we need to keep playing to see if he can hack it and is still cheap) and Vlasic (who we're not going to get rid of except through a buyout which won't be a good idea almost regardless of the direction and timeline the team will have).

I expect Muk and Thrun to spend most, if not all, of the year with the Cuda much like Eklund and Bordeleau did this year. There is always injuries that will create some room to bring them up they are really ready. I would not be surprised if Mike also added to the blue line with Harrington, Pouliot, and Nuutavaara types like he did this year. Mike seems to be infusing more organizational depth than DW ever did.

Muk, yeah, Thrun I sort of think is going to get a chance in the NHL first. He's older, etc.

He is two years older so I doubt it. I'd pencil him and Okhotiuk into the lineup for next season. Not sure what spots they're going to fill from the likes of Vlasic, Ferraro, and Knyzhov on the left side, but I'd imagine they're in the big leagues next year.

I like it. Much shittier dmen have been traded for a 1st, cause "grit".
I like that that's the asking price. I just would've preferred if he settled on a 2nd round pick and made it happen sooner rather than later. lol

Ferraro pretty much is what he is and it's a depth d-man with almost no offensive capabilities. I would really like if the Sharks are going to rebuild that they finally bring in someone on the left side with some offensive awareness beyond moving the puck to your partner or chipping it off the glass. Haven't really had it since Christian Ehrhoff.

I think they also need to see what they have in Thrun and Mukh when they come over. Ferraro is still really young and could conceivably find his game. I understand not wanting to ship him off yet when there's virtually no one to replace him right now.

They could draft someone that could turn into Ferraro

Do they really need to though? Ferraro is what a 4D max if he figures it out? Which is a big if. Sharks have Thrun, Mukhamadullin, Okhotiuk, Knyzhov, Cicek who all could probably take Ferraro’s spot today and then guys like Furlong who is probably a long term fit around the same level. Sharks have plenty of 2nd/3rd pair potential LD. They really don’t need more. Honestly I’d move Simek and Ferraro both for picks today. Hell throw McDonald in that too. Roll with Knzyhov, Vlasic, Thrun down the left side today.

You are greatly underestimating what it takes to be a regular NHLer, and vastly overrating picks/prospects.
