I know, he’s a wild ride. He’s the San Jose Sharks in human form. Sometimes you’re like wait is he good?! And then other times you’re like, why can’t he do anything at all…
To me it's like, Yeah, this is why he ended up a 6th round pick. If he'd had the skill plus the other elements to his game he would've gone much higher. So having this success from that draft spot is in many ways a great success story, but it still doesn't make him a not-frustrating player who's hard to fit in a not-stacked lineup.

Labanc did well with the Thorntons, the Marleaus and the Pavelskis of the league.
He isn’t a leader in any way.

Yeah, he's very much a complementary player. Lindblom is similar, except more responsible in the neutral and defensive zones.

The irony of the current situation is that if you swapped Lorentz with Hertl, you might have the Sharks' best line offensively with Lindblom-Hertl-Labanc. Instead those two wingers have basically zero chance of contributing much when Lorentz is centering them, despite that sweet goal last night.

This is all good fun news

Ooooh, I didn't realize Havelid, Bystedt and Mukh are coming over when they're done! That's very exciting.

This is what I'm hoping for next year/the year after -- I don't care if we're a bad team, I just don't want us to look like a bunch of sad old guys. Having a bunch of youth on this team is going to help Hertl and Couture too, and it'll make the product on ice a thousand times more watchable.

Super exciting. Mukh and Thrun probably make the team next year. I wonder what the plan is with Bystedt, let him go another year over seas? Or bring him to the AHL squad to get used to NA ice?

Be the first time he has ever sourced anything. If his sources are anything like his podcast takes, they're likely wrong (though not as wrong and annoying as his former co-host).

Dude it is brutal listening to the Locked on Sharks podcast. He is not someone who should be running the show by himself. We truly can't have nice things.

I miss Sheng's podcast so much -- I thought Nick was a good host and I thought Sheng did a good job as a journalist and professional.

The problem with the Locked On Sharks Podcast is that JD is not a good speaker. He gets lost in his own sentences, he's not always clear, he's not confident in what he says. I think he provides good info and I really like his prospect discussions -- but he's not a good host and he's not a good interviewer. He'd be a good producer, probably, or even a co-host with someone like Sheng, but on his own, it's kind of brutal to listen to (even though I listen to it).

Ted Ramey is a great host, on the other hand, but I find that most of his episodes have no information or anything of interest.

@Sheng Peng, come back to the podcast space, please.

From a poster who sounded like he watched a lot of Bystedt and Havelid, he thought they could use another year in the SHL, but who knows what Grier's plan is. I imagine it might be similar to what he did with Eklund and Bordeleau this year -- let them play top minutes in the AHL unless they completely bang the door down at training camp.

I suspect that might be the plan with Mukh too, though I think Thrun and Oktohiuk will likely make it. I guess it also depends what we do with some of our other D, i.e., Karlsson, Macdonald.. I imagine Vlasic is on the team still too as the lone vet in the back there. I can sorta see Ferraro traded?

Im not sure Thrun would sign if there wasn't some kinda handshake deal to play for the Sharks right away. Thrun is 22 in 9 days, so hes no baby. Very curious to see how that plays out.

There is absolutely no rush to promote prospects if they're not ready. I really hope they continue with that philosophy and let guys marinate in the minors as long as needed including Bystedt and Muk

Yeah, and it seems like we've made room for his signing. Down to 47/50 contracts now, according to Capfriendly, and I wonder if this also portends well for getting Alex Young in once he's finished up at Colgate. Sounds like he's worth giving a shot to (with the Barracuda) as well.

Speaking of Young, it looks like he's playing as we speak right now in the ECAC quarterfinals with Colgate against Dartmouth on ESPN+.

I doubt that they play in the NHL full time next year but it's gonna be huge for the Cuda at the very least. Laroque, Okhotyuk, Havelid, and Mukh are going to be a massive upgrade over Riedell, Sieloff, Holway and Onyebuchi.
Laroque going back to the WHL might be the best move. Who knows, but he has missed a lot of games and maybe one more year in juniors would suit him better.

I just hope we get to the point where we can trust our AHL team as actually being a good spot for kids to develop.

I will say that Eklund has really seemed to grow into his role and put things together there. I don’t watch much so I can’t speak for everyone else, but it at least seemed to work for him — we’ll see tomorrow!

Feels like Kunin was already the Grier's Greenway...
And yet Friedman confirms that we did make a legitimate offer for Greenway. It’s only by the grace of Buffalo giving up more (or possibly just being in the East) that we didn’t get him.

You see why I have concerns about Grier’s philosophy? Greenway is just awful but he does fulfill the only requirement Grier seems to care about, which is size.
