I think EK was saying it'd be weird with 3 days left to go before the trade deadline to ask him to waive. It probably wouldnt be enough time for EK to do his due diligence before accepting a trade. I get the sense there's not a lot of communication that is happening between the GM and his players.

Why would you bother having that difficult conversation with your star player if you aren't going to trade him.

Sure something last minute could spring up but sounds like Edmonton has decided against it this year so don't think there is a market. (maybe the offseason though)

what are the odds Grier is done trading till the off-season/draft?
Sharks have 5 expiring prospects on June 1st, two of them Gaudreau and Cardwell are very likely to get signed. If they want to sign any of the other three, McCue, Gilmartin, Guryev, they'd need to move out a contract cause they're at 48/50. Either way I suspect the Sharks shed a contract or two soon. Bonino/Reimer make the most sense. Hamaliuk as a throw-in for someone also makes sense

Probably haven't been offered that yet
Would be surprising since Nino just got a 2nd for worse production. Granted, Nino is big so playoff teams assume he's going to hit and all of that in the playoffs, but he also makes $1.5M more than Barabanov does next season.

I can see Grier wanting more than a 2nd probably for Barabanov. That or he wants a quality prospect. Barabanov's contract and production in this cap environment is honestly worth a 1st round pick or a 2nd + mid-level prospect. Biggest hurdle is probably just that he hasn't played enough NHL games to be seen as worth that to other GMs and none in the playoffs (aka the stupid stuff that the leaders of this sport place too much emphasis on).

I want to hope this is posturing to drive up the value, but I doubt teams care about Barabanov that much
I think he could be a nice piece for someone. A similar comparison might be Brandon Hagel.

Hagel, 6', 175lbs. Traded to TBL with 2.25 years left at 1.5M. Put up 21g, 16a, 37points in 55gp before the deadline.
Barby, 5'10", 191 lbs. 1.25 years left at 2.5M. Has put up 11g, 21a, 37points in 55gp so far.

Obviously not identical. Hagel = a few more goals, one more year, a little cheaper. But maybe comparable. Hagel got two AHL prospects, and two conditional top 10 protected 1sts. I'd say Barby should be worth at least a 1st.

That would be amazing.

I just don't see a team offering more than a 3rd for Barabanov which just isn't worth moving him to me. If someone offers a 2nd then I'd be open to moving him but I just don't see it as a high priority. Anybody not worth a 2nd or more should just be kept until the trade deadline of their contract's expiring year.

I'd maybe be like we'll add in a 5th for a 2nd.
