You asked what it would take for us to retain 50% on the best D in the league by a wide margin this season. I said 10 1sts to show we wouldn’t do it unless we get MASSIVE overpayment.

I genuinely don’t understand your goal here. Fabbro is not Jeannot. Fabbro is not very good.
To be fair neither is Jeannot, but we arent giving them a first I dont think.
Tampa overpays because they have the chance to win more cups but need unique cap situations, we dont have anything like that kind of need.
It just would be so off base to deal any real assets for an unneeded player.

Fabbro is also not very cheap. People are too ignorant to realize that TB is paying a premium because of how cheap Jeannot is rather than based on his talent profile. If he cost $2.4M, Jeannot would not have fetched more than maybe a 3rd + 4th rounder. Because he is $800k and TB has no cap space, he costs more.

Ok that was a miscommunication on my part. Let’s break it down

1) hearing about values and rumors of Fabbro to SJ.

2) What if NASHVILLE ate 50% of Karlsson? Nashville will be young next year and might be scraping the floor. Mathematically it would be $22.5 million dollars. 5.75 million cap hit for 4 years. How much would that be for SJ?

If a team wants Karlsson at 50%, they need to be prepared to fork over five or six assets at the first round pick level. That cost is why it’ll never happen. Sharks will probably retain between 20 and 30% of Karlsson then only require two or three first round pick level assets to move while moving cap dumps in the process.

I hope it gets done in the off-season but no team is paying the cost of a half retained Karlsson for four years because it is monumental.

Sharks aren’t paying for that at all. The other team that’s acquiring Karlsson can. I don’t understand your question. Sharks would not pay for any team to eat any money on Karlsson. Again the best D in the league by a wide margin this year.

Friedman mentioned that STL's offer consisted of 2 guaranteed first round picks. I assume they wouldn't give up their 2023, so it was probably 2024+2025.

I think I would have preferred that package, but it's close.

From the interview MG seemed fairly confident he will move EK in the off season. He just pointed out it would be extremely complicated to figure out by Friday but if someone wanted to try he was more than willing to put energy into it.
With how he does things, it's gonna be like 15 parts on the move.

The dream next move would be EK65 at what is likely his peak value for a first and a top prospect for EK the player himself. Then another first plus for the massive amount of retention that is going to have to happen. Then take best picks possible for Reimer and Bonino.
Very much a fan of both Timo and EK65, but now is the time to finish yanking off the bandaid and getting this done.
If the Sharks got a 7th and only a 7th rounder for Karlsson we should be happy. The biggest return of a Karlsson trade is getting him off the team and salary off the books, even at as high as 50%.
