Speculation: 2022-23 Sharks Roster Discussion Part II

I hope your guess is right. I could like Jarvis in teal even though it means Timo is gone. It would help the pain. Morrow would give us someone to watch.
Morrow and Ferraro could be a nice UMass 2nd defensive pairing for a long time. Play styles would be very complimentary imo. I'd personally rather have more prospects with top pairing/line upside, but think Jarvis + Morrow + 1st would be a pretty compelling offer. Though not sure how that compares to multiple 1st rounders and a 1st round prospect from the Blues. Fact that Grier already basically showed STL the door on that offer means that something good is coming back in return. Just a matter of how good it is.

Jarvis + Morrow + 2023 1st is my guess on a Carolina offer.

If NJD are not including Mercer, then they'd have to counter with probably Holtz + Zetterlund + 1st, but think that the Carolina offer would be better of the two with Jarvis > Zetterlund (younger by 2 years) and Morrow/Holtz in the same tier right now.

But if Grier turned down a pair of 1st round picks plus a guy that was just a 1st round pick 18 months ago, I'd think that the deal that he's getting has to be pretty dang good one way or another. Would really like a blue chip defensive prospect out of this deal given how few answers we have there in our system right now and the likelihood of grabbing a blue chip forward prospect with our 1st rounder this year.
If the Sharks got that package from CAR for Meier I'd personally lay down the red carpet for Grier at every home game from this year until he retires

I don’t hate a 1st, Zetterlund and Holtz, honestly. Holtz can really grow with Eklund - and Zetterlund sounds like he has potential to be a 2nd liner — or at least a complementary piece on a top 6 (like a Eklund - Hertl - Zetterlund line).

I don’t really think Holtz is a Grier-type player so that prospect piece is really a mystery to me. Maybe he really did get Mercer.

Ok, but wouldn't mercer also be scratched if we got him?

My guess is Zetterlund, Holtz, 1st 2023 and 2nd 2024 for Timo (9x9M) and a random thing like bonino or a 4th
We probably arent getting him, it was a bit of a pipe dream and required one of NJ or CAR to blink and both have GMs unwilling to overpay for anything.

Zetterlund being scratched (and us being tired to him previously) plus rumors heavily favoring NJ makes me think this is it. But what’s the 2nd piece?

Might be a dumb question but why is he the only one wearing a different helmet?
In a lot of the European leagues, the top scorer on each team is demarcated by something on the uniform. In the NLA (top Swiss league), their jersey literally says “TOP SCORER” surrounded by flames. In the Liiga, the top scorer gets a shiny golden helmet. I’m guessing that that game was very early in the Liiga season, so Pulli was the top scorer and therefor got to wear the special boy helmet.

I remember watching Sasha Barkov wear that helmet all year long in 2012-2013. What a special prospect he was.

Not too high on Zetterlund’s career projection (3rd line, maybe 2nd line fill-in). And not like this team will be competitive for a while. So personally would rather take a stab on more lottery tickets.

I think it really depends on that 2nd prospect piece to me.

I also wouldn’t hate taking a quantity deal: Holtz, Zetterlund and Mukh (or Casey or whatever). It’s still a “take your chance to see if these guys reach their potential” but if they do it could be a shiny deal.

Also if Holtz and Ek can regain their chemistry, I don’t know. It might be worth it.

I can’t wait to become the Swede Jose Sharks.

We dont even get Zetterlund on a cheap or ELC deal because he needs to extend this offseason and should make a projected 4.3M according to the athletic projections.

So we wont be flipping him for the Coleman return anytime soon
