Speculation: 2022-23 Sharks Roster Discussion Part II

Why are we assuming that they offered 2 firsts? All I saw was speculation that they could offer two firsts. Never any rumors they did.
Its very hard to keep things clear in my mind anymore, but I think Lebrun reported that the offer for sure had two firsts in it.

I’m just fascinated by what Grier has that beats 2 1sts + prospect if that was the offer. And if he’s asking for Mercer and not getting Mercer — what’s the offer that beats that?
Something worth more than a late first I would assume. Holtz probably has more value than one of those firsts

The question though is that two firsts like 1st+Bolduc+prospect or two firsts like 23 1st x2. I know Friedman was saying in regards to the EK trade that 3 firsts wasn’t necessarily 3 first round picks and could be a prospect taken in the first.

It said specifically two of their three firsts. The prospect might not have been Bolduc though thats just my specualtion

Also realize that GMMG may prefer ro trade Meier ro eastern conference team. St Louis would have ro over pay to overcome that.

Sharks bold prediction is that EK65 gets dealt to Oilers.

I guess it could all come down to how much a late first (presuming St. Louis is offering both of their acquired late firsts) is valued compared to, say, an extra prospect/player from New Jersey. Like, would you rather have Zetterlund or Toronto's first round pick? And how do the main prospects involved match up?

And I guess there's a valid question as to how much Grier should care about strengthening a conference rival like St. Louis. Even forgetting how much we all dislike them, having Timo on that team could make it a bit harder for us to make the playoffs again (whenever that time comes) because odds are the team that gets Timo and signs him long-term is going to "win" this trade over the Sharks. So in a way it does make logical sense to send him to the East, if the offers on the table are negligibly close in Grier's mind.

They are really teeing up a Timo heel turn

If it's going to happen, the time is now

My guess is Timo attends the Marleau retirement ceremony with his arm in a sling, and then out of nowhere reveals that the arm is actually a fake arm and starts beating Marleau over the head with it before taking off his Sharks jersey revealing a St. Louis Blues jersey underneath and doing an epic worked shoot

Cue massive crowd heat

I hope so. I do think its possible Nikishin is the header and CAR was just posturing in the athletic.
That report they offered him cash was odd. Maybe they think hes going to stay there for a while, so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if hes included in the top offer from CAR.

Saw elsewhere earlier this afternoon that STL offered the 2 1sts that they acquired and Bolduc.

Got to imagine the Jets are out on Timo.

Seems like it’s Canes vs Devils as it has been for a while. I know they’ve mentioned Vegas but I just don’t see them competing.

Jets have been out on Timo since he wasn't signing long-term there. Their reporter mentioned that yesterday I believe.

Chris Johnston thinks the hurricanes upped their offer for Timo today, probably what spawned the Lebrun tweet.

Jarvis + Morrow + 2023 1st is my guess on a Carolina offer.

If NJD are not including Mercer, then they'd have to counter with probably Holtz + Zetterlund + 1st, but think that the Carolina offer would be better of the two with Jarvis > Zetterlund (younger by 2 years) and Morrow/Holtz in the same tier right now.

But if Grier turned down a pair of 1st round picks plus a guy that was just a 1st round pick 18 months ago, I'd think that the deal that he's getting has to be pretty dang good one way or another. Would really like a blue chip defensive prospect out of this deal given how few answers we have there in our system right now and the likelihood of grabbing a blue chip forward prospect with our 1st rounder this year.

I hope your guess is right. I could like Jarvis in teal even though it means Timo is gone. It would help the pain. Morrow would give us someone to watch.
