Speculation: 2022-23 Sharks Roster Discussion Part II

i'm starting to get the feeling that there won't be a trade. i just don't think there's a team that is going to give Grier what he wants.
I just really dislike the entitlement of some fanbases and even some teams just flat out refusing to give anything of potential value to get something of current value.

I like the idea of MG not bending to teams to show that he isn't some pushover GM, but I don't know if i'd feel that way if Timo walks for nothing (so to speak)

Think there is a lot of posturing right now on both sides. Grier has a high ask and rightfully so on his assets. There are 11 days until the deadline. There will be a team that decides enough is enough and will up their offer a bit on Meier (my guess is WPG blinks first and puts Perfetti out there). Grier will take that offer and shop it to the other suitors and that is where the bidding war takes place and a resolution happens shortly thereafter. Just need one team to increase their offer and then things will get rolling very quickly from there.

With Carolina hosting the Stadium Series game this past weekend, it makes sense that things went quiet on the Meier front (Chris Johnston's words not mine re: quiet over the weekend).

Curious why we haven’t seen an Eklund or Bordeleau call up so far this season. Both guys having big rookie years in the minors and it would seem that a couple games in the NHL would help them see where they need to get better.

Friedman on 32 thoughts speculates Grier doesnt like our prospect pool and wants to get a ton of picks so he can move around alot in the draft (the first round specifically).

I think its a decent mentality, but he shouldnt pass up a blue chip prospect to get an extra late first imo.

Also please dont trade down from our first pick
I think barring our first pick being outside of the top 5, he moves it for multiple picks.

Yeah I think thats likely. I just hope he doesnt do it inside the top 5

I really believe and have faith that MG is competent in his role as GM and his overall strategy for rebuilding this organization from the top down. I really just think it comes down to A) what pick do we have and B) who’s already off the board by the time we’re on the clock. If we have the 5th pick and Bedard,Fantilli,Carlsson, and Michkov are off the board, id like to think MG takes Benson unless say a team like St.Louis has a Pick inside the top 10 and also 15 and wants to swap with us for the 5. You can take 2 guys with a chance to help your team of the future and not one is the thinking there. I wouldn’t do that but I can halfway see the thinking behind a move like that.

I meant inside not outside. Sorry bout that

Regarding not calling up Eklund could it be that they still don’t want to run a year off of his ELC to bring him up this year? Not sure if that’s the case after his first pro year or not, someone can correct me.
That would make sense For Eklund. I’m curious if the same goes for Bords.
