Speculation: 2022-23 Sharks Roster Discussion Part II

First look had me thinking those were different value packages but it’s just because of Johnsson and the 4th on closer look. I’d be okay with either of those although I’d prefer the CAR one.
Nikishin is by far the best player in either deal, but he's not coming over for 2 years which means I need something much better than a potential bottom 6er that only has "value" because his brother is a young top 6 forward for Montreal. Give me Morrow or Gunler over Suzuki to consider that Carolina offer. Too much uncertainty to give up a bonafide all-star top line goal scorer in his prime.

On the NJD front, I just can't see Casey as a key piece in a Meier deal. We literally drafted Havelid a pick in front of Casey last year at the draft in the same mold. Be odd to double down on a similar player that you could have had basically 3x last year in the draft between the Bystedt, Lund, and Havelid picks. I get that DWjr was running that draft, but Grier was still the GM and had been part of draft prep for NYR before getting this job ahead of the draft.

I’d prefer Muk over Casey.

Holtz was a PPG in the AHL last season and has gotten no opportunity whatsoever with NJD. I know we are all getting tired of him being included in proposals but Nikishin is not “by far” the best player.

Casey and Havelid are not similar players except for their size.

Undersized right shot puck movers are pretty similar players in my mind. And Holtz has just lost a lot of shine as a prospect not playing hardly any hockey all year. Sure, he was awesome last year. Not being in the AHL to get reps and not producing in his limited bottom 6 NHL time though is cause for concern and drives value down a lot compared to Nikishin dominating the KHL at a young age.

Sharks being mentioned as the favorites for Valterri Pulli seemed notable.

Been off the grid here most of the season dealing with some family health stuff. Personally, think the route that Grier is going is positive in starting to tear it down and am excited to see what sort of talent he's able to add to this roster in the next 4 months between the draft, TDL, and UFA. Fact that we're assuredly trading Meier and entertaining Karlsson trade offers means that I think we hired the right guy for the job rather than a yes man that was going to keep miring in mediocrity and not change course in either direction.
I don't really know much about Pulli but I saw this clip and I just got instant Brent Burns vibes.

The white gloves and gold helmet is a god-tier look.

Dude is only 21, would probably instantly become our best D prospect. Go get him.
Let’s be honest, sharks probably have the worst D prospect pool in the league. It’s not a high bar to be our best D prospect.

We should really try to get Thrun if he’ll sign with us.

Here's my guess if either end up happening:

To EDM: Karlsson (35% retained: $7,475M cap hit) + Gregor
To SJS: Barrie + Yamamoto ($7.6M cap hit) + Bourgault + 2023 1st + 2024 2nd (with condition to move up to 1st based on some playoff condition)

And then:

To NJD: Meier (with extension) + a mid pick like 3rd/4th
To SJS: Holtz + Muhkamadulin + 2023 1st

Or

To CAR: Meier (extended) + 5th/6th
To SJS: Morrow + Drury + 2023 1st

Way rather do the Carolina trade

Hard agree. Both of those guys would easily make our D next year.
Imagine if we get both and then somehow get a 10-15 pick in addition to our pick that is obviously going to be Bedard.

Bedard, Reinbacher, Thrun, Pulli all getting added to our prospect/young NHLer pool. I'd definitely wonder if the real reason Hodge disappeared was cause he was sacrificed to the Hockey Gods.
