Since they have already talked a bunch, I wonder what actually counts as an offer.

An offer is very specific. We will trade player A and draft picks X and Y for Karlsson with Z% retention.

Talks could be a lot of things. Talking through return vs retention. Preferences for specific players. …etc.

One would think it would have been shut down once and for all and have never been revisited then. I can't believe the Sharks would make a deal then just drop it on a player like Karlsson

If he wants to play for a competitive team for the rest of this contract, as much as it annoys me to admit, there are few places around the league where he could feasibly land that can do that as well as Edmonton for the next few years.

There's no official word of anything regarding trade talks with Karlsson. It all depends on what kind of talks they had when Grier came on board regarding this. Some players can be pretty hands off about this sort of stuff and don't want to deal with it until something is pretty concrete. Some players with full movement protection will be asked or give a list. It's hard to really say one way or the other but Karlsson's interviews regarding this seem to be more along the lines of not wanting to deal with it until they got something to present to him but you'd suspect that Grier isn't doing anything that Karlsson isn't already okay with but past instances like the whole Heatley deal from Ottawa to Edmonton getting nixed has happened so who knows?
