Speculation: 2022-23 Sharks Roster Discussion Part II

No, unfortunately actually I'm correct. You're going to be an emotional mess when they still have Hertl Couture and Karlsson and they aren't getting 1-3 overall picks.
And look at how they’ve done with Timo and those guys playing extremely well. It got them all the way to 5th worst!

And that's rebuilding?
Hertl and Couture aren't going anywhere. I'll be shocked if Karlsson is traded in the next Calendar year. With those three on the team (or even those two), they'll still be better than Anaheim, Arizona, Philly, Chicago, etc. etc. So, no, that isn't rebuilding, which is why I find it funny some guys (cough Mr. 72) think trading Meier puts the Sharks into a rebuild.

If Grier had already traded Couture and Hertl was moved last year, then I'd be all for getting whatever you can for Timo. Neither of those things has happened obviously. The Sharks have a better chance as it stands now at becoming good with Meier than they do becoming real bad without him.

I would think moving Meier and Karlsson does more for the rebuild than moving Hertl or Couture does. And if the production completely plummets after trading Meier and Karlsson, hopefully Vlasic, Hertl and Couture ask for trades.

If they don't it really does put the Sharks in a bad situation since 2 of those 3 have NMC's and the other has a 3 team list that he will accept trades to. I think part of the problem with the Sharks is that they almost always seem to end up with 1-2 elite players that just refuses the team to bottom out (rebuild). Right now Karlsson and Meier are leading that charge.

I actually think its good that NYR is out on Meier because it wouldve been sort of weird for Mike Grier to be making his first huge trade with his old team.

Devils, Canes, or Resign. Just wish we didnt have to move on from our best forward because of all the dead weight on this roster :/
I don't think the Rangers really ever were a realistic landing spot for Timo. Same goes for Toronto, imo. If Timo is being looked at as a rental--which is almost assuredly the only way NYR or Toronto can acquire him--it's going about it the wrong way. His real value lies in being a potential long-term piece at his new destination, and at his age, in his prime, that's way more appealing than Tarasenko and should fetch a much better package.

I think there are still a couple sleeper teams out there in addition to the Devils and Canes. Buffalo is an interesting one to watch out for, the way they're developing and locking down some core guys.

I don't care if Vegas offers 10 1st round picks... Hard pass on trading Timo there

Don't @ me

Timo to Vegas would ruin him, and in turn, Vegas would be ruined.

1) Remember who Timo's best friend was when he was here? Kaner. And Kaner loves hanging out and making trouble in Vegas. Timo would follow suit, no doubt.

2) And look at Timo with the Gucci apparel here. In Vegas, he would not be able to resist the lavish lifestyle.

TLDR:
Timo to Vegas is a good thing for us.

Valid point, now that the trade deadline has passed.
A little disappointed that the Kings didn't do anything by the deadline today, but on some level it makes sense to roll with what got you to where you are now and not disrupt that chemistry.

Wait a second, where am I???

The Tara trade is great for the Sharks. One less piece of the market to an eastern conference team fighting for playoff position after another NY team does the same last week. Elite pieces are coming off the market and teams still needing their own will become desperate. Kane is older and starting to fall apart while RoR is a different kind of player altogether. Who else is there on the market that matches the pedigree of Timo?

Logan Couture, playoff performer extraordinaire

Draft order should be determined that the All-Star break so teams can make better trade decisions.

With all due respect, I think if that's the case then Fitzgerald walks away from the deal. As much as I would like the Devils to acquire Meier, I don't think they can afford to give up Mercer as part of any deal. He's already a key part of the team (5th in scoring overall) and is a versatile player that can play C/W anywhere in the lineup. One weakness of the Devils prospects is at center and on offense in general - Wheeler's released their prospect rankings and while the Devils are #2 overall, 4 of the top 5 are defensemen and they don't have a lot of high end skill players on offense in the system. Not sure how the Sharks view Holtz (who was rated #3 overall in their system, in his own tier just below Hughes/Nemec), but if they don't value him as a key component to any trade for Meier it might be tough for the two teams to work out a deal.
4 of 5 are defenseman. Perfect you need to let go of one for meier. Simple. Nemec + 1st for guaranteed extended meier
