I didn’t want to say anything on the trade boards because I like Canes fans, but this seems significantly worse than a lot of the proposals we’ve seen from other teams. Drury seems like a nothing player, he just turned 23 and is putting up barely a half a point per game in the AHL. Their 1st will be around 27th-32nd overall. Morrow is a good prospect but it’s not like he’s setting the world on fire, and given that he’d have to make up the vast majority of the value in this package, I just don’t see it.
I’m really high on Morrow. I have him in that level of D prospects right after the real top (Hughes, Nemec). He reminds me of high end Laroque sort of (play style). He’s a good two way D that should be a guaranteed 2nd pair with a chance at top pair. My opinion on Morrow might be what sways me.

Drury might be 23 but it’s only his 2nd AHL season where he put 52 in 68 in his first season. Drury was kind of tossed around this season between 4th line NHL minutes and just sort of yo-yoed between the two leagues. He’s definitely had a down season but I still believe in his potential. He also is supposedly super close with Warsofsky so hopefully he can re-find that spark.

Yeah the first would be late for sure but I still like a bunch of the prospects in that range.

I also think their cap dump would be useful. Someone like Teravainen.

You must be insanely high on Morrow to think he’s a Hughes, Nemec level defense prospect. I’m nowhere close.

Step below them. Like if they’re A prospects, he’s A- or B+.
There’s a gigantic difference between an A prospect and a B+ prospect. A guy like Hughes/Nemec/Edvinsson/Jiricek is a lock to be top-4, has a strong chance of being a top-pairing guy, and has a good chance of being a star. Morrow-level prospects may never make the NHL.

Morrow will definitely make the NHL. He’s NHL ready now. He’d definitely be a bottom pairing D now. He’s got a ton of room to grow too. The leaps he’s made since his draft year make me confident that he would take another step too.

Again though I’m biased. I love Morrow. Very high on him.

That’s fine, we can agree to disagree. I just see very little value in that package.

I mean its still possible to sign him for 10M and flip next year too? Not like MG is backed into a corner. SJ should be getting something fun back. Lafreniere is not having a great year. But only 21, does NYR really give up on him so fast? And you gotta feel if they do that they dont see him as future star anyways. Do the Sharks really want to take a chance on a player whos likely a top 6 bust that might grind out a nice 3rd liner role?

Are you saying that he'll get that in arbitration? I cannot see the Sharks and Meier coming to a $10mx8yr agreement. That's way too high for a winger and puts him up with elite status players. He's good, very good on streaks, but not elite, imo.

I cannot see that deal through arbitration either.

No a 1x10

I'm not very optimistic about Knyzhov's future. Two major injuries and a loss of major developmental time will be very hard to recover from.
He's had some ups and downs in AHL play so far. Surprisingly his mobility seems fine. Definitely needs some extended conditioning time though to get his brain back into hockey. Still he seems better than all the other defensemen on the Cuda sans Pouliot.

Yet, unsurprisingly they look like a better overall unit without Merkley.

They're generally more structured right now but the quality is still pretty dire. It might be because they got rid of Merkley. But it's probably more to do with getting Poulliot back and Brady improving a lot.

Yeah I mean Sharks/Cuda need some D prospects pretty bad. Outside of what they already have with the Cuda, it's really just Laroque and Havelid that we can expect to make an impact with the Cuda within the next 3-5 years. Other than that we got Barnett, Guryev, Kashnikov who I don't have a ton of faith in any of. There's also Furlong who I forgot about even though I really like him. Fischer I think will spend all 4 years in college or close to it.

I haven't really been all that impressed with BRady. I mean he's ok, but there's nothing about him that makes me feel like he can be a top 6 in the NHL, but that's just me.

I don't think Brady's an NHLer by any means. My point is more that, at the worst of it in December, they had an ECHL caliber defense, but with Poulliot coming back, and Brady improving, they have something resembling an AHL defense.

Darren Brady is a nearly 27-year-old AHL rookie. He's not going to make the NHL, he's just there to allow the Barracuda to play with six defensemen.

I think Nemec is a possibility and probably the best single asset we could get back for Meier. We would need to add a little though.
If we need to add for a possible top 4 D while our current trade bait is an elite winger wtf. We don't add, we get Nemec+ for Meier and that's how it goes. We don't do Meier+ for a maybe f***kkk that

I would easily add any non-1st round pick, non-Eklund asset to Meier to get Nemec. He’s exactly what we need, but it won’t happen.

Nemec would be on ELC for 3 years and controlled for another few. Even if you don't think he deserved going #2 in a re-draft, he is still absolutely worth 2 guaranteed years of Timo at 3M (retained) and 10M respectively.
