The more I think about it, the more I think we need to get back a high end center prospect for Meier, if possible. I think Couture can be a pretty great 3C for another few years or a great winger, like Pavs, so I think someone like Mercer (if we can pry him away) would really help speed up the rebuild. Eklund and Bordeleau (maybe Robins/Guschin?) can help fill out the wings.

it’s either that or an equivalent D. I won’t be crushed if we get a great winger, I just think with Hertl and Couture on the team in the foreseeable future, having another C is a good base to start balancing out this team again.

Though I keep coming back to how absolutely atrocious our D is…

To be honest, I still don't think that would be an awful move - I think Meier will be worth the money for most of that deal, and it would be good to have a play-driving forward to keep in the top six (especially if we are able to move Couture at some point). We'll still be a lottery team for this year and the next couple anyway, most likely.

I don't think it likely and trading Meier probably makes more sense, but I just don't think an extension would really be disastrous.
it's less the $ and Term being bad than it is a signal the team will continue to try to compete

Position probably. I think there’s also a huge variation in how people view Raty. I think he could end up a good 2C but I’ve also seen some people say that he probably ends up as a 3C due to speed. So it could be that exec sees Raty as an A prospect so A prospect+early-mid first is a huge package. Or it could be that the exec sees Raty as a B prospect which still pretty good package.
The Sharks have always been the kind of management to get fixated on a player...

That would be legit great. I imagine Hughes would only be on the table if Timo is talking to NJD and they extend.
You'd have to think that if Hughes were on the table, it basically means one of two things:

1) NJ thinks very highly of Meier, and Grier was able to force their hand
2) NJ doesn't think that highly of Hughes, and was willing to part with him while his value was at its highest.

#2 is worrisome; while of course they could be wrong, who would know more about Hughes than the Devils?

I mean it's just simply something that wouldn't happen. I doubt even Nemec would be on the table but Luke's a complete no go. Jack would revolt lol
Hischier's off to the side going sadly looking at his picture of Timo. But yea, I was just clarifying on the reported prices. I think we've been looking at a guy like Holtz or Kulich as A level prospects that would be the centerpiece but it seems like our GM wants more than just that, especially if a deal is in place.

1st, Holtz, Sharangovich makes sense to me. I would like to keep Sharangovich though if theew was a way to do it without him.
