I dont think its crazy to say prospects better than Holtz could be at play for us if MG plays his cards right.

No one near as good as Timo on the market, and a strong need for a few teams.
The team I’m really looking at is Buffalo. I think they could give us the best package. They could easily give us one of Quinn or Peterka and their 1st (will probably end up in the 14-20 range) and they have an embarrassment of riches in middle-six wing prospects (Kulich, Ostlund, Rosen, etc.) to replace them.

I think the problem is that if they want a signed Timo, he gets to control his fate a little bit. If he doesn’t want to sign with them (but is willing to sign with NJ), we end up being a little bit at his mercy.

Doubt it happens but if we are trading Timo I hope it happens this week like Horvat. Most teams are off until next week and it would give the players more time to get settled. Could be Grier still isn’t loving the offers he’s received to this point mind you. In any case, I honestly didn’t have the Isles anywhere near front runners for Horvat so I’m curious if an under the radar team will swoop in for Meier. Everyone seems to think Devils, Rangers, Hurricanes and maybe Buffalo but perhaps a team like Washington or Pittsburgh or Detroit make a huge push. The next month can’t go by quick enough.

Friedman said earlier last week that he thought Meier had the best chance of going early. I dont blame Grier for not moving though because it gives more time for teams to bid up.

Makes sense. Quick hypothetical, if Minnesota offered Rossi + 1st would you take that over Holtz + 1st? Maybe if we take on the last 2+ years of Greenway’s deal we get another prospect or pick….? I know the Parise, Suter buyouts hurt their cap the next two seasons but i still think they could make it work. A lot of their key guys are already locked in long term.

It will be a bummer losing Timo. I will be happy that it will be the first legit step towards a rebuild that seems 3/4 years behind. I know I know, rebuilds don't guarantee future success but neither does whatever has happened the last few years.

Watching a talented youth movement will be just exciting even if the Sharks are a lottery team for a few more years.

In a heartbeat but I doubt we get something on top of that.

Let's remember that according to the rumors, the Sharks want to work out a deal with the trade partner, and then let the team talk to Meier about an extension. That might slow things down a little bit.

Almost positive I saw some statement outta his camp the last few days saying they haven't had talks with anyone yet. So maybe going down to the wire

I swear to you all I legitimately almost typed up a Meier for Beauv, Raty, and a 1st trade proposal this morning here.

Seems half the Canucks fans like it and half hate it, based on how they view Raty. Lots of debating whether it would be better for them to get 13th overall or get the '24 pick which could be better if the Isles go south in the standings next year.

IMO, it’s bad trade for VAN.
And Meier (re-signed) gotta bring us much better assets.
Raty is a B/B+ prospect. I like him, but still.
1st round is top12 protected.
Beauvillier is a cap dump, player like Labanc, and his 4,15 mln contract will expire in 2024. I guess, his value is negative.
And VAN retain 25% of Horvat’s salary. They will not even get conditional pick depending on will Horvat stay in NYI or not.
I know that Horvat will have UFA status, but I would be disappointed if I be Canucks’ fan

I think the only prospects better than Holtz we could get from a team that's rumoured to be interested would be someone from Buffalo like Savoie/Quinn, but I doubt it. I'm torn on how I feel about some of the CAR guys, like Drury is nice but ideally we get someone younger. The other wildcard team is the Rangers, but I have no clue who they would legit offer. Othmann? Laf? Kakko? Idek.

^ To add, Holtz is a pure goal scorer who shoots right handed...which is something we need both in the system and now (and he could play now) Unless we're getting a top-d prospect which is unlikely outside of Morrow (even then I prefer Holtz) he's the guy I want as the centerpiece of a Meier trade.

Our 2023 first, Holtz, and Eklund is a good forward core to start the retool with.

Did they get rid of the conditional pick based on the player signing with the new team?

I did type it out here at one point.

Morrow and Nikishin are 100% that same tier as Holtz/Quinn/Savoie.
