Folks, Copley isn't some 25 year old rookie just learning the game. WYSIWYG. As "bad" as he was he still out played his opponent. The D on this team is total crap and until Blake swaps out forwards for some legit shutdown D nothing will change.

Copleys awful. We need to take the beer goggles off. On the aho wrap around his move to the post was like a two step. Great he’s got 15 wins but his GAA amd sv% are pretty gross
Making it even sadder, he's still the best goalie on the team this year (although I will say the defensive play for him has been mostly better than the other 2). If Blake doesn't pay up for Demko/Vejmelka, go get Korpisalo for the season

Since we played like a bunch of jive Turkeys I’m cracking the rr13 and masters keep! See you guys on the other side.

Copley, getting scape goated, the rebounds were mostly due to the quality of the initial shot. We know what Copper can do and I feel he held up his end of the deal. We needed a little more from the rest.
I agree. Copley generally is a rebound vaccuum.. thats one of his strong suits. The one tonite - pretty bad, but overall he's doing well in that area. Obviously the guy is a 3rd stringer - playing well for what he is. Dont bag on him, bag on the goalie pipeline - you dont come into the season with that and expect success.

That first goal in the third was just a bad rebound that should have been an easy deflection to the corner

Maybe but overall he was strong early and put us in a position to get a win.
Canes have elite shooters and re-bounders and structure on offense.
Thats what happen when the skater don't due quite do enough to temper the bombardment of quality chances.
The skaters and Copley came close and fell just short.
I see it as a positive that it happend that way, and it will be a great tutorial in defeat.

For the Kings to get a top 2-3-4 Shut Down D-man they will have to give up something of value...Vilardi perhaps or Kaliyev or both or how about Byfield! There is no skirting the issue to get something you have to give up something its just that Blake doesn't want to pull the trigger as it may backfire and cost him his cozy little job. And Copley is just helping the Kings try to secure a Play-off berth. Sometimes he falls on his rearend and can't stop a beachball

You’d have to be delusional to think that Copley is better than average or even average. Our goaltenders were so bad that I think people see him as being good when he’s just better than the echl ones we have now.

It's not a tutorial when the team keeps losing games like this. Todd teams can't handle momentum changes and wilt at pressure.

Back to Copley however - good first 2 periods, but that rebound goal was a huge turning point into causing a loss. Absolutely can't give up these kind of goals early in a period when ahead, and it's happened a few times now

It was more of a bank pass of the pad , like you see in playoff time, than a bad rebound. If he doesnt kick at the initial shot the puck would have already been in the net.

There's only one answer to this question Todd McLellan. We have Mikey Anderson probably our best defensive d-man and of course he'll put old man Edler out there. Not that it would've made any difference but one would think you'd put a younger better player out on the kill. LOL.
I bet if you dissected Koalas brain, you would see deep ruts where the neural pathways have fired in the same direction (ie vet >> young) over a period of 30 years... its not going change now... he's a nice guy, he answers questions patiently.. he just doesnt seem to be good at the helm when the chips are down.

The OT rebound goal hit the center of his pads and should have been smothered. It wasn't like Toffoli drilling a slap shot from the RW off his far right pad, and Martinez putting it into an open net.

Maybe we ain't on the same page but I'm talking about the 4-2 goal. He doesn't have to kick at it because it's right at the top of his pad. He just lets it hit him instead of a simple redirect which you get taught when you're learning to play goalie

Copley reminds me of Ersberg. More competent than the rest that year but there isn't a Quick coming to take over.
When LA's Lombardi was giving away draft choices didn't GM Blake entice Cal Petersen to come to LA from (Notre Dame) Buffalo the team that drafted him 4 years hence. They could do the same with another prospect drafted 4 years ago by...Buffalo again his name is Erik Portillo! He's playing at Michigan and won't sign and be a 2nd,3rd fiddle so...

Can you imagine Sturm was getting paid a full salary to put Kopitar on the half wall while every arm chair gm saw how bad that was. remember this when posters act like being a GM is rocket science.
We screamed about this for 10 years and they had to hire power play wizard Jim Hiller to say “Have you tried putting your best players in positions to succeed?”

I have a theory on this.. that due AK and DD being 2 time cup raisers, coaches defer to what they want more than impose their ideas... its all i can come up with to explain how nothing was done last year to fix it...maybe Hiller has more sack
