If you express any skepticism you sound like an old school Luddite, but I was all aboard in baseball in the 90s and 00s when statistics changed our understanding of the sport.

I'm just not remotely convinced hockey is in the same place. Just because some guy tweets a bar graph that says that Sonny Milano is elite defensively doesn't mean I gotta buy it

There’s not a lot of nuance with baseball either. Outcomes are pretty straightforward and well-defined on an individual basis, you can create a formulaic model out of it.

Too much nuance with hockey. Kind of hard to grade on a 1-for-1 model when you have to follow the responsibilities of four different people in a system. It’s the same problem I have with Pro Football Focus’s grading system

PFF is also dependent on who's doing the grading. I follow one team and specifically look at the OLine productions as a team and individual for seasons. One year, the individual PFF of certain OLine players score were absurdly high compared to the team OL breakdown productions. The team OL breakdown matched the eye test, but the individual didn't make sense considering sacks and TFL's given up directly over center or edge. Also, it didn't help when many youtubers are showing the OL individual and team breakdown that match the eye test too for that season. How can a 22nd ranked run blocking and 23rd rank pass blocking have players ranked in the green where the data shows they were porous at run and pass blocking specifically at center and RG? ha!

This is a ridiculous post. Latteri and Silfverberg are two different types of players.

Silf is an excellent two-way forward. So he has two bad seasons, one due to health, other due to COVID. It's not due to laziness or a lack of effort.

I'm sure 100% healthy Jakob can become a force again. He arguably still has the best shot on the team as a forward. McTavish might get there, but we will see.
I'm fine with Silf being on the 4th line. Hes a good PKer and has good leadership qualities 3rd line? expected to be an offensive force? no. Theres so many better forwards with offensive upide that can help Lundestrom put up points. The comparison to lettieri is purely on offensive ability alone and nothing else. You say he has the best shot on the team. When exactly has he scored with that best shot? 2? maybe 3 years ago? the shot is completely gone.

I'm fine with Silf on the 3rd line RW, but we do need either development from a current LW (Jones/Comtois) on that line, or we need to acquire/use a better guy (Vatrano/McTavish?) for that spot to complement Lundy offensively.

I'm fine with Silf on whatever line and minutes he earns. Its completely possible he ends up being a buyout candidate at some point, just as its completely possible he ends up getting healthy and returning to form as a 3rd line winger who puts up some points and is one of our best defensive forwards. You have to give him a chance to show what he can do IF healthy and decide from there.

I dont believe you give him, or Jones, or Comtois minutes they dont deserve.

We're all going to be yelling "PASS!" in a couple of years. :D

Ahhh... that's when Zegras evolves to become Mr. Wizard and obliges like his WJC-18 and first WJC-20 performances of 0g + 9a in five games in each tourney. "You want a pass? Then you get a pass, you get a spin-o-rama pass, you get a between the legs pass, you get the alley-oop over the goalie net pass (Trevor Toss), and you get a pass through three defenders' legs!

It’s interesting how I feel about Z. I actually want him to work more on his overall game. The Michigans and alley oops are fun don’t get me wrong, but this kid has so much potential to be a Top legit 1C in the league if he can shape out his entire game.

PP1 loaded up is actually a fun proposition:

Klingberg as your QB
Zegras/Terry on the half-walls
Big Mac in the slot as the bumper
Comtois as your net front presence.

I could dig that
NIce dream.

Terry will continue to get the last 10 seconds of the powerplays lol
And will continue to be willing to share his PP time with others. Like a good teammate should. We want everyone to get their chance to play on the PP, not being selfish like those other teams that play their first unit for the entire 2 minutes.

I don’t think I want McTavish in the bumper slot. I want him on the opposite circle of Zegras. Z is going to have to learn to get comfortable in the left half wall

With all the interesting players on the Ducks to talk about they blather on about Gibson for the entire write-up.

At the start of the post/article, there are links to other positions you can click on such as LW, RW, Center, and Defense. (Or you can click on the hyperlinks I share below for the other positional rankings.)

Key
Tier 1 = Elite
Tier 2 = Outperform
Tier 3 = Solid
Tier 4 = Underperform
Tier 5 = Terrible

Goaltending: Tier 3
Defense: Tier 4
Center: Tier 3
RW: Tier 3
LW: Tier 4
