Or do the Avs have the cap space to resign them this summer if they turn out to be a good fit with the club? I think they're both great pickups.

Well Coyle is signed for next year so he's definitely not a rental.
Nelson I'd imagine the Avs will try to re sign based on how much they gave up to get him. We'll see if he wants to stay or not. If they do re sign him a few guys need to be sold off. Namely Colton and Wood. Maybe Manson too.
Coyle is signed through next year, but if he struggles, I could see Cmac flipping him in the offseason. Nelson is a tougher one. We paid a lot for him, but he could absolutely make more in the open market and has no reason to give the Avs any sort of discount. Be it term or money. He's also going to be 34 next year. Signing an older player that should be regressing more than he has already, is very risky. In the end, I expect they will keep one, but not the other. Which though? I got no clue.

Yup. I still remember game one with kariya and selanne. Was such a wonderful game and hopes were sky high….. then the rest of the season happened
Loved the first game from the new guys, now go out and repeat it until we have 16 wins when it matters most.

Well Coyle isn't a rental, he's for sure back.
They have plenty of cap space assuming Landeskog doesn't return(Which we'll see on that). But even with Landy back they can move a couple other guys to create the space to keep Nelson.
IMO Nelson is going to look amazing with the Avs and both sides will want to get a nice deal done.

I have no doubts that Landy is coming back. I'm not sure for how many games but after watching that 45 minute interview with Keefe he is coming back for sure. The Avs and Landy are playing the cap game right now.
Is it allowed for him to get a few games in the AHL for conditioning just before the playoffs without counting against the cap?

- Purpose of Conditioning Stints:
These stints are designed for players who have been on LTIR (Long-Term Injured Reserve) to get some game action and work their way back to full playing form.
- Duration:
The conditioning loan can last for up to six days or three games, whichever comes first.
- Waiver Rule:
Players on LTIR conditioning loans do not need to pass through waivers to be sent to the AHL affiliate.
- Extension:
Teams can request an extension of two additional games beyond the initial conditioning stint, but this requires approval from the NHL Commissioner.
- Example:
The Maple Leafs recently sent Jani Hakanpää and Connor Dewar to the Marlies on LTIR conditioning loans.
- Player Status:
Players on LTIR conditioning loans remain on the NHL's LTIR list and do not count against the NHL roster or salary cap until they are deemed ready to return to play.
