It’s insane that people actually think benching players does anything at all to improve their play.

If someone is shit, they’ll still be shit.

If someone is lazy, they’ll still be lazy.

It never accomplishes anything other than weakening the team because it seems like 90% of the time it’s the wrong people being benched.

That said, Hayes is dogshit so this is great, but I’m talking about when it’s a Ghost or a Frost or a TK or other people who never did anything to deserve punishment in the first place.

What a nice summary of many of the things that make him so incredibly annoying to watch.

I forget who it was here who said something along the line of Hayes hits like he's just chalking up empty box score numbers for a performance review with a management that loves hits, but yeah.

He and Yandle are two peas in a pile of shit.

As a fan of both I have a hard time picturing torts benching ghost. In fact I think smoll boy big effort would have gotten him back on the top pairing.

Compared to the effort I have seen under av they could just pull the goalie and get the same message across. Can't play with out hart.

In a losing season you are going to find out who are good pros and who the real veteran leaders are. I watched g go hard as hell during multiple losing streaks and I think it was almost a mistake because if he would have lost the buy in hak would have been out earlier. He was a definitive leader.
Tk bought in after being sat and I think it will help him as he is still pretty early in his career. I think is just a good pro and is gonna give you what he's got. Even if it gets him back on the fourth line like in Winnipeg

The extra Hayes quotes from the Athletic honestly don't make the context better:

“Yeah, I mean, you can be benched, and everyone writes about ‘be better defensively,'” he continued later in the availability. “I try every night to be the best player I can be. Some nights it goes well for me, and some nights it doesn’t. I try to be consistent. He felt like I was doing worse for the team than better, so he decided not to play me.”
“I mean, I try my hardest every night to do the right things here. Sometimes things don’t go your way,” Hayes said. “I think the icing on the cake was the turnover in Jersey, but I don’t think … I think everyone on this team knows I wasn’t trying to turn the puck over. Come on. I mean, it’s a two-on-one the other way. If you’re doing that, if you’re wanting to do that, you’re insane. So yeah, I guess I should have got the puck deep and who knows? Maybe I would have been in the lineup the next game. Maybe, I don’t know.”

Of course Fletcher has some quotes that amount to: "Important part of our team blah blah great guy blah blah not in doghouse blah blah internal tears."

Says it all

National media ripping his shifts apart. So moveable, so coveted. Even Samuel Morse stands in awe of the Flyers telegraphing.

Richards' final play as a Flyer was giving his all to lay out and block a meaningless shot in a lost game. Giroux similarly never quit or stopped competing.

Just try to imagine that kind of drive from Hayes. Your brain will start whirring like a blown transmission trying to picture something so unrealistic.

The entire league knows Fletcher is the easiest prey in the league, and the team will continue to be treated as such until he's gone completely.

Chuck reminds me of a guy I played poker with years ago. We played $1/2 hold em. Max buy in was $200. Most people would go in for at least $100. This guy would show up with $60. Every time. And after he inevitably lost, he would leave. And then come back from the ATM with another $60. Lose again, make another ATM run. I'm pretty sure that guy never left that table "up", and that's not exaggeration. He was a literal ATM for the table. But he still showed up, week after week, with his $60. I think Chuck just likes feeling like one of the guys. Tool.

As for the Hayesey vs TORTS deathmatch, I'm here for it! I'd consider myself optimistic by nature. Or used to be. Anyway, I have a real hard time seeing this team go anywhere anytime soon. As much fun as the current dysfunction is, I don't know if it's reached a level where we see any more change than, Chuck out, Danny in.

So if I'm not going to get entertaining hockey, bring on the drama! I love seeing Kev dawg out there looking like Droopy. I don't think I've seen him smile all year. I can appreciate TORTS for that, at least. Just like I can appreciate the Dawg Pound blowing up Twitter with nonsense, because it still exposes TORTS. I hope it escalates further. Guys at the top are reaping what they sowed, and they should be embarrassed.

I know you're joking but he's actually the perfect example of why benchings are stupid.

-Look at how great he was when allowed to do his thing up until the end of 2017-2018
-Then all the undeserved benchings happen and he's constantly interfered with by horrific hard-ass coaches who don't understand the basics of the sport
-Now he's back to prime Ghost as soon as he doesn't have to fear being benched anymore

Never have I been more certain of something than a Fletcher front office — or whatever similar successor — calling Chicago about Seth Jones. I can see it now: Provorov for Jones. Flyers high five about getting their top pair RD for the next 17 years — did you know he played for Torts?! Chicago high fives getting out of that contract while flipping Provorov for picks.

Uh, maybe you didn't hear about the groin injury followed by scoping both knees?

That is not true. Nothing wrong with sitting a player at all.

Prime Ghost will be a wanted man come the deadline. A legit top pair dman making next to nothing (they retain 50%). Cant imagine they get anything less than a 1st and very good prospect
