We should start a betting pool. Flyers say Couts is close to returning? What day will they announce he lost a limb.

Charlie and Kelly on BSH radio made a bet on which player will get a point first. Kelly took Braun and Charlie took Risto. If Kelly wins the bet, Charlie has to go on a 60 second anti-analytics rant.

That should be fun. I want Braun to get a point asap.
What does Charlie get if he wins? Lol

Lastly, and I’ll move into the realm of speculation.

We may be seeing why the team didn’t go after Gaudreau. More and more, I get a sense that this experiment with Hayes/his buddies was something members of the organization soured on.

A organization fixated on intangibles, and locker room dynamics - didn’t want to double down on it further with Gaudreau.

After being willing to make asinine deals for players they covet, spend cap space like drunken sailors… They all the sudden decided it was smart to step back?

Bullshit.

And none of them learned any humility from their failures.

I’d also be intrigued where this belief in the organization came from that under Vigneault, the players ran the show.

Because everything in Alain’s career, along with Michel just screamed players coaches.

The organization has an obsession with guys like Tortorella, about players conforming to a specific mold - with no room for modern player specific development.
I wonder when this group will quit on him? Whole thing needs to be flushed out. Management, players, all of it.

Safe to assume this is a pre existing condition , didn't they say this was a recurring injury ?

So Cam and Ellis, his two biggest trade guys were both damaged goods !!!

Just when you think Chuckles can't get worse !!
I forget who said which but one side said that it’s something he’s dealt with before and the other said it was something new.

One side being the organization and the other being Atkinson himself.

It's obvious to anyone watching it is a safe scheme. Often limited to only two forecheckers, with strong emphasis on getting back to set up the classic Tortorella shot blocking umbrella around the slot and circles. On offense there is minimal attempt to force high danger chances, despite that being the norm these days. All about safety. Like he's always been.

This is another case where you simply have zero understanding of a coach. You had zero understanding of Hakstol. Or of AV. Or of Fletcher. You have zero understand of Tortorella. You have zero idea how this team thinks. It's why you're always wrong.
I see plenty of attempts, but limited success.

That's a combination of lack of talent and lack of experience.
They're just not good at passing through traffic, and when the pass gets through, catching and making a play in traffic.
And they're not elusive enough as skaters to create space in traffic.
And when players get the puck, puck movement is too slow to give them time to make plays.

Some of this will be fixed with experience, some by adding more talented players.

They're going about it the hardest and least productive, but safest, way. That's why there's failure relative to other teams. They fail by design. As ever. This team has no feel for the pulse of the game in 2022 and they hire appropriately.

They won’t be allowed to. It’s being set up to either fit in John’s mold or not play. Be removed from the team.

There was such a double down after Hextall on doing things the way the old guard wants - it’s insane.

Little Zac and Nicky D could very easily wear letters next year.

The only thing they kept from Hextall, and enthusiastically so, was an urge to punish players and heap pointless futility upon them. Especially prospects. The team didn't used to behave like this.

Torts' teams don't quit on him, he burns himself out. So far, he seems a lot calmer than in the past, age does mellow you, though in his case it's relative, a mellow Torts is still wound tighter than most HCs.

Most of his players love him, he's one of the few HCs who actually cares about his players as people, not just assets.
In that sense he's the anti-AV. Given that offensive players like St. Louis, Panarin, Atkinson, et al. thrived under him, the idea that Torts is opposed to offense is silly, he's even said he expects players to TK and Frost to be primarily offense oriented, he just wants them skating hard off the puck - but he's not asking them to play like Cates.

Torts is exactly what this team needed, the Flyers have been sloppy the last five years outside of one season under AV, and going back further, when was the last time a Flyers team was 'Hard to play against." Even the better teams basically rode a top 1st line (basically G and Couts) to success, it was never a team effort.

I’d be playing him as many minutes as possible.

They are going to cater to the whims, and moods of a moronic HC therefore tanking any slim chance at a potential trade for Hayes.

The big picture once again eludes them. I’m not a huge Hayes defender but he’s not drawing satanic markings on the walls, or killing goats before practice. He’s not the best defensively, and has never been a player to play with unrelenting pace.

Torts needs to get over this sick fascination of a team of ditch diggers.

So just going over guys coming on Chicklets over the years. AV has caught some flak by former players that played for him that were on there. Him being arrogant is often a complaint.

Therien very much gets painted as a complete asshole on there whenever his name comes up in a story. Whitney & Bissonette both played for him in the Penguins organization. They don’t get ever get specific but they paint a picture his whole coaching tactic is running his players down even if it makes no sense. Around the time Babcock was getting killed for being an asshole they would always speculate if someone would come out against Therien. I think they remarked before that it would be hard to find a former player of Therien’s that actually likes/liked him.

It’s seems like Tortorella has his supporters & his detractors amongst former players whenever he comes up on there.

I’m sure Torts does. If you fit in a Tortorella mold you are golden. We see it with Cates, Laughton I’m sure.

He knows how to coach one type of player in this league, and with one method. Tough love.

He’s a charlatan.

Great players played great.... more at 11.

Please provide proof that most players love playing for Torts. Now before you go and get some quotes from a couple players please know that having a few people come out and support him doesn't mean that most players love playing for him. It could very likely just mean that, unlike Torts, some people just don't want to be assholes by putting their neck out there and calling him out because they gain nothing out of it.

Get me Anisimov STAT. We can't have a roster without a Torts boy to help teach everyone how Torts works.

Nevermind the fact that Atkinson has been living in Columbus much of the year.

See that's the problem. Tortorella needed a translator. Cam was gonna be it. He hasn't been there. Since Tortorella is too stupid and arrogant to figure out how to talk good, he needed a player to do it for him. This is why we need Anisimov.
