Fact is, GM is one of those positions where it's almost impossible to know if a candidate will work out.

I mean the Eagles put a lawyer who never played football, never scouted or did anything football related other than fantasy drafting in charge - and it turned out terrible!
The fact is the people that you place blame on and acknowledge nothing will change until they’re gone will have chosen him and yet you’re just ok with it.

That’s weird and textbook contrarian.

It’s so weird how a person that places blame on Holmgren, Clarke, and Scott is just perfectly accepting of those same people choosing Briere.

It’s almost like every single thing this franchise does must be defended.
"Homlgren is the one to blame for the state of the organization, not Charles! No I don't think the Flyers retaining Homer is a problem, why do you ask?"

Also pathetic.

I listened to the recent NRD podcast with the Flyers/Fletcher talk. Nothing too earth shattering. He said they’re gonna switch out Briere with Fletcher soon. He said Fletcher won’t be outright fired. Fletcher will retain his President title. He made it seem like the Flyers are going to let Fletcher’s contract expire out opposed to paying him to go away right away.
not one person here could have called this..

Tulsky is a data analysis guy, not sure he's got any other skills.
Interesting resume:

A Philadelphia native, Tulsky holds a B.A. in chemistry and physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He also conducted a two-year post-doctoral study at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. He worked in high-tech industry for 12 years, managing teams of researchers focused on using nanotechnology to solve problems in DNA sequencing, solar energy, displays, and energy storage; he holds 19 US patents.

Of course, if you want a hockey guy:

Justin Williams

Special Advisor to the General Manager
Justin Williams, 40, is in his second season as the Hurricanes' special advisor to the general manager. Williams retired from playing professionally on Oct. 8, 2020.

If you're stealing someone from Carolina, this is your man:

Darren Yorke

Assistant General Manager
Darren Yorke is in his 13th season with the Hurricanes, and his second as assistant general manager. As assistant general manager, Yorke is involved in all player personnel decisions, oversees amateur scouting and player development, and is responsible for the team's draft. Yorke previously served as the team's director of player personnel.

So here's something. If Schmuck does get bumped from the GM role and is solely the team president, who's to say that he won't try to interfere with Briere? What if Briere makes a move that he thinks is good, but Schmuck won't sign off on it? Technically, a team president can do that.

If they crap can Schmuck as the GM, then they need to fire him as president too. As for Briere, if he becomes the GM, who's to say he doesn't fire the senior advisors and replace them with his own guys? Could you picture Briere hiring Hartnell as one of his senior advisors? Or how about Kimmo Timonen?

If Briere gets the job, I hope to hell he gets an iron clad contract in which he has total autonomy over hockey related decisions.

It comes down to Scott or his successor. Briere would have autonomy only as long as the "owner" (his agent) grants him that authority.
But if they really are ready to commit to a rebuild, that may happen.

How has Dylan Cozens been this year? The stats looks pretty decent. Has he been playing a bit with Quinn?
Yes, Cozens, Dahlin, and Tage have been the few bright spots in another bummer of a season so far. Peterka and Quinn are developing nicely too but the team is bottom 3 in goals against, so it tends to be a shooting gallery every night.

Your mistake is thinking Torts isn’t an awful coach and could actually help improve a terrible player.
That’s definitely part of it

I thought they were already rebuilding? Or are we starting a new one with Briere?

If Chuckle f*** is promoted to President, my boycott will continue. Cannot support this franchise until AT MINIMUM Fletch & Flahrsy the Hutt are both gone.

Never a hard stance, NEVER SURRENDER! Never change, deady.

And what if Danny really does butt heads with The Ancients? How long will that last? They all need to go. It's the only way.
Well, if Torts and Briere are on the same page, I think they'll pretty much roll the rest of the organization.
Given the failures of the last decade, hard to imagine the Senior Advisors have a lot of credibility anymore.

Hard to imagine eh?

They are the one's who picked Briere. And how exactly would Torts and he "roll" the org? A media campaign? Media already doesn't care. Many fans don't, either. They'd have to sell to Comcast, that they are losing money on what should be an ATM for them. I don't know if Torts is the guy for that.

Predictable. He’s an AGM for one of the most forward thinking teams. Exactly what special skills do Fletcher and Flahr and Briere and Lombardi present? Enlighten me. Data analysis is the most important skill by a mile…..that none of them possess or go out of their way to not look at. I’m sure Tulsky has studied up on how to spout empty cliches by now.

Tulsky is a pure data guy, the other AGM is the one with extensive experience in all aspects of Carolina personnel decisions the last few years.
Analytics have value, but not THAT much value, there's an awful lot of "noise."

I have bad news…

He’s been President since the start. He’s already both the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager.

That’s why he only answers to Scott.

I have good news, "titles" are a name on a door, authority is the ability to actually do things.
Comes down to whether Fletcher is pushed upstairs (i.e. slotted out of the way until his contract expires) or still has authority.
