Mayhew's limitations were well known, yet he was picked up on waivers by Anaheim, b/c he can score goals.
He scored 10 ES goals in 40 games, but still didn't make a team this season (so far).
Problem is all he can do is score goals, and not at a high enough rate to compensate for his other deficiencies.

Sedlak was more of an unknown after 3 seasons in the KHL,
In CBJ, 162g 14-12 26 at ES. but 7th in scoring in the KHL as a 1st line center last season.

They knew he had speed, could forecheck and play the PK, what is still unknown is to what extent did he improve his offensive skill set with those three seasons in the KHL.

But so far the eyeballs say he's a significant improvement over the dreck we've been throwing out there since PEB left town.

The fact that Laczynski is still with the big team, and getting reps at LW and C as well as RW suggests they see some value there.
But they also need PT for Bellows, MacEwen, Allison and Tippett, who are also auditioning for starting jobs.

I wouldn't read too much into lineups game to game, there's plenty of time for everyone to get extended looks this season.
With JVR out for six weeks, and Couts and Atkinson out indefinitely.
Right now, the oldest forwards are Hayes (30), Deslauriers (31), Sedlak (29), Laughton (28).

Gerry Mayhew once impressed enough in a small sample size to have the f***ing owner praise him at a press conference.
Well Gerry Mayhew never impressed me. He always seemed overmatched, and I never got the impression that he thought the game particularly well. Just a high motor guy, which can be effective in short bursts, also shot at 20% last year when he scored all those ES goals, which is totally sustainable.

I think Sedlak is different, and I don't disagree with a PEB comparison, again based on limited sample size. But lets revisit this in a few more games.

If Torts didn't like Zamula, he'd be back in LHV.
Seeler has been solid, better than I expected, and certainly better than Hagg.
But he's on a two way deal next year, which tells you what they really think of him.

Risto predates Torts, he'll get every chance to show he should start, but at some point if he doesn't "get it", he'll get benched.
But even if you want to dump him, you have to try to inflate his value.

Everyone was clamoring for a rebuild, well, you got your wish.
Now the reality check, we're talking 3-5 years, so there's no rush with anything.
This is not a "trade everyone at the TDL" situation, it's a "gradually work your way out of bad contracts" type of situation.

As Linda used to sing: "And I think it's gonna hurt me for a long long time."

If only he was as worried about guys like Risto or MacEwen's lack of IQ, skating, skill, etc

Meanwhile Ristolainen's been our worst defensemen by miles and he's back in the top six.

its beyond frustrating !!! i seriously dont understand why this Org. even goes to the f***ing draft.

its pointless..

just sit back and sign old dogs... its whats gunna play regardless anyways here...

I honestly don’t mind sedlak, he has decent speed and can play the 4th line well (from what I’ve seen thus far). But I can’t stand having all of sedlak, deslauriers, and macewan in the lineup. those 3 shouldn’t see any minutes in the top 9

And spare me by saying it’s a result of the injuries to couts, jvr, Atkinson, and brink. Brink probably would’ve been in the ahl and no way torts takes out deslauriers/macewan. Frost and Allison will be sent down

They're stuck with Risto right now, Torts has no choice but to try to make it work.
Even if Torts wants to get rid of him, that contract makes it difficult.

But at some point either Torts learns to play the way Torts wants him to, or he'll find himself on the bench.

And you can thank your boy Schmuck for that f***ing awful contract. You know Schmuck, the one you continually heap praise on.....

Just a guess but I think that they're showcasing someone over a series of games for a trade. Either Provorov or Risto. Z has shown that he can handle the show. Sanheim and TDA could be one pairing. Seeler and Z another. Player moves to determine the third duo. Too bad York went down with an injury. Hopefully not for long.

I'll bet you both of my kidneys and one lung that they're not showcasing shit. They're just clueless.

No chance they’re showcasing Risto to trade him 8 months after signing him and deciding they had to keep him because they liked how he played in 1 game vs. the Capitals

How could you tell if Provorov was getting showcased? He gets prime minutes in 99% of games anyway.

I doubt they're "showcasing" anyone.
Right now Torts just wants to put a team together, then he'll spend the second half of the season deciding who he wants back next year.
Of course, if someone makes an offer for any player older than 25, they'll listen intently.
