In case anyone wonders if the stats back up that his defense has been a problem... nope.

6th best of 14 forwards in expected goals against per 60
5th best of 14 forwards in shot attempts against per 60
5th best of 14 forwards in scoring chances against per 60

So clearly nothing that would stand out or suggests that when he's on the ice the team is having issues.

Every single one of those stats is better than golden boy Noah Cates, by the way, who was gifted and cemented into a top 6 role over Frost for seemingly no reason other than Torts has a crush on him. Frost has clearly been the superior player of the two.

This kind of thing is why my response to"Tortorella doesn't play favorites" was "just wait."

As expected he does play favorites and isn't the paragon of flawlessly reasoned accountability we were told he would be.

Don’t worry, DeAngelo will be benched for last games disaster in the D zone.

If he isn’t, that would mean there’s no such thing as accountability and we’ve been assured there is.

Defense is the only thing these fools care (& talk) about. It wouldn’t be a surprise that they all, not-so-secretly, would prefer that all of their games end 1-0 where the opposing goalie loses his mind from boredom and decides to put the puck in his own goal (in OT) to end his own (& everybody else’s) misery.

Frost has played better this year, but he still goes MIA for long stretches.
He's simply not as good as some here would have us believe.

For one thing, while scoring is dependent on linemates, expected scoring not as much - if you make a good pass to a bad shooter, it's still a shot with a high expected value, even if the linemate doesn't finish.

Frost has an xGFrel -7.28. CFrel -0.53.

Sedlak in 3 games, playing with worse forwards, has a xGFrel +10.80.

So if Torts was going on merit, Sedlak should be playing ahead of Frost. :sarcasm:

More seriously, Bellows (24) - Frost (23) - Allison (25) is (2) 1st rd picks and a 2nd, they're all auditioning.
Cates (23), Tippett (23) getting a shot in the top six with Farabee (22), TK (25).
So 7 of the top 9 forwards are 25 or younger.

I want to see more of Sedlak, so far he looks like the best 4C we've had since PEB. But it's only 3 games.

MacEwen is 26, Laczynski is 25, they both should get a shot at the 4RW spot. Laczynski is more sound, but MacEwen is more physical and maybe a tad faster, and so far he's actually shown better hands around the net. It helps that he's not playing with Thompson or Bunnaman.

Sounds like a regular young player in Frosts case. Competent teams let them play through it instead of destroying them. You yourself have repeatedly called for that and assured us at length repeatedly that would happen this year. Now it isn't, and you're defending it instead of either admitting you were wrong, or slamming the team for bad development that goes directly against what you've expressed would be best.

Using stats right now is stupid. A player that gets as little time as frost got last game stats will be useless. One bad shift with with the wrong players on the ice will make stats shift to much to glean anything productive from cumulative stats.

Or you can use the eyeball to confirm that Frost is MIA for stretches.
Bellows, Tippett, Frost, all 1st rd picks, none have done enough to justify that pick.
All are young enough to turn it around, but you got to do it, "potential" is a dirty word.

It's not that Frost is bad, he just doesn't do enough to get excited about him, and even if he holds onto a job this year, they'll be looking to replace him if he doesn't step it up.

At least Tippett has shown flashes that he could be a force on the forecheck, we'll see if he can sustain it.

How can the two relatives here still defend this shit.

Can't imagine anything better for player development.

Just like last year when he needed to be more safe and got punished because of it, but then they immediately complained that he wasn't taking enough risks and was too worried about being punished.

Mixed messaging and 6 min TOI isn’t ideal ??

Another Torts quote on Frost: "I guess you can consider him an offensive guy. At least that's what's been told to me."

LMAO. Torts speaks the truth. That's why some people hate him so much -- he says things they don't want to hear.

And Frost has been invisible despite a huge opportunity YET AGAIN. Very strange how there's so much negativity on this board, except Frost continues to be shielded like a little cub. Teflon Morg.

Torts has one speed. Benchings and burying particular players in the media. Complete dinosaur. You could tolerate it if he were some kind of schematical genius but for someone who openly admits he's not an offensive coach, they are getting absolutely torched defensively. They give up nearly 10 more shot attempts per game than the next worst team (and 30! more than the team they play tonight). Enjoy the honeymoon.
