giroux probably signs elsewhere so we have some cap there, we have our picks back, and we have more cap space..oh and cap space. That team you have right there is almost the same as the one we have yet we would still have our assetsNo, it isn't.
G - Laughton - Voracek
JVR - Frost - TK
Lindblom - N Cates - Allison
Lycksell - J Cates - NAK
Provorov - Ghost
Sanheim - Gudas
Hagg - Myers
That's a pretty bad team.
I thought we'd be hitting critical mass right now with provy sanheim tk etc entering Thier prime years with young depth in Allison frost and Patrick then g and voracek could ride out as the veteran presence. You are re-writing the past.
It was WIDELY believed that the Flyers could becoming a top team in time for G's last 2 years of his contract. You thought it. I thought it. Appleyard thought it. Etc...
Or do you forget how many. Times you wrote "in 2 years...."
We were on the outside, they should have had better information. You are re-writing the past.

gost looked pretty good last night though. We were on the outside, they should have had better information.
There was some bad luck, if Patrick is a 2C, Lindblom a 2LW, Allison is healthy, they've got a solid forward group. Ghost broke down as well, so did Morin. Stolarz blew out his knee a year before he hit FA, so they had no chance to see if he could be a solid backup, took him two years to recover.
But Hextall never built depth, both missing on numerous draft picks and failing to pick up players on the margin, Weise, Weal, etc. didn't cut it. He also depended on Elliott and Neuvirth, both better suited as #2s behind a true starting goalie, but Hart didn't show up until 2019-20, and that has been a lot to ask of a young goalie.
He was tweeting during the Flyers games, so he’s fine.Speaking of, I hope @Appleyard is ok. Haven't seen him in a while. Hopefully just enjoying traveling around the EU.
This one actually is a burner.Thank god. We needed more burners.
Early Christmas for us all!Thank god. We needed more burners.

If you think Hextall was bad at drafting and building depth you should check out this guy Fletcher
Ghost had no value, he was coming off three subpar, injury plagued seasons with two years left at $4.5M.Fletcher may have been able to get some or no value back for Gostisbehere with retention, however he wanted to get rid of his entire cap hit because he needed to fit in Risto.
Also because he’s a shitty negotiator.
2019/2020 nor 2020/2021 looked horrible instats to me accept he wasn't playing because of some ws due to injury. But I think he has shown with time to repair and the right coaching, he can play at a high level. Hak killed him as he will Seattle.Ghost had no value, he was coming off three subpar, injury plagued seasons with two years left at $4.5M.
Stralman cost more for the Panthers to dump, and he only had one year left on his deal at $5M.
If the Flyers accepted they weren't competitive, they don't make either of those deals, eat the salary, and keep the draft picks.
The problem wasn't the trades (Fletcher doesn't get many bargains but he doesn't over pay either, he pays market value), but the logic behind the trades.
Though in hindsight, I doubt Ghost or Jake would last long with Torts.
No, it isn't.

Ghost is scoring, but he's not playing at a high level, though it's hard to tell how much is Ghost, how much is playing on a terrible team (though the same could be said for TDA on the current Flyers? )2019/2020 nor 2020/2021 looked horrible instats to me accept he wasn't playing because of some ws due to injury. Except he wasn't injured in 20-21, and his play wasn't subpar. He scored 0.5 P/GP, 0.94 ESP/60, and his ES GF% was 50 and his ES CF% was 52.57.Ghost had no value, he was coming off three subpar, injury plagued seasons with two years left at $4.5M.
Didn't say it was a good idea, but keeping him wouldn't have made them much better either.Except he wasn't injured in 20-21, and his play wasn't subpar. He scored 0.5 P/GP, 0.94 ESP/60, and his ES GF% was 50 and his ES CF% was 52.57.
Just because his contract didn't have positive value with the flat cap didn't mean it was a good idea to give him away to another team along with the 36th overall pick in 2022. His role in the lineup was replaced by two of the worst dmen in the entire league - Risto and Yandle.
Neither. It's pure fantasy either way.Didn't say it was a good idea, but keeping him wouldn't have made them much better either.
The problem was they weren't willing to eat $15M and declare that they were rebuilding - and that came from the top.
Which raises an interesting question, did they decide to rebuild when they hired Torts, since the thought was they were hiring him to be more competitive, or did Torts basically stage a palace coup after he was hired and made it clear this was a rebuilding season?
