Eakins has put every new forward acquisition beside Z or Terry in order to let them show what they can do before they eventually get moved down. It's happened every time and people still seem to complain.
It’s not like there are a lot of skilled options out there to give him. Maybe he will be good with a defense first guy. Can’t hurt to try.

I think McGinn could be an upgrade from Grant up there. Just hoping for the best, since McGinn is signed for another two years. It’s an opportunity for him, so think he will be motivated.

I was going to post this. I would rather see Lundestrom get top line minutes at times over Zegras.

Now this made me laugh - Comtois is relegated on a revolving fourth line role
They need to try Lundestrom at wing to see what they have with him long term. He’s due a contract this offseason.

This is my problem with Eakins - there is very little creative Thinking with him.

Lundestrom-McTavish-Terry could be a great NHL 2nd line for a long time

That depends on if they see him as a wing or a center. The long term goal may be to make him a defensively responsible center on a 3rd scoring line.

I don’t understand why they bury Lundestrom with bad offensive players when he’s proven he can produce with competent linemates. Very frustrating
Because he's not as good as McTavish or Zegras and that'w where what talent we have should be playing. Pretty straightforward.

McTavish and Zegras get most of the offensive chances. It annoys me greatly that he is relegated to strictly a bottom-six role

The times I’ve seen Lundestrom play, I’m impressed with how strong he is on the puck, and how smart he is positionally.

I'd actually like to see Lundy with Z. Let Z play center, but lundys puck possession could help Z.

Gotta say as much as I love these guys, I’m surprised by how many people point to Zegras/Drysdale/McTavish and act like we don’t need to keep building through the draft anymore because we already have a great young core. I mean these guys are great but there’s nothing about them so far that should have anyone convinced they can make up the core of a future contender. They haven’t even shown they can be the core of a team that competes for a wild card spot. We absolutely don’t have a good enough young core as it stands, in time hopefully we will, but I have no idea why anyone would think we don’t need to keep seriously adding to it. Even if you think we have 3 bluechip prospects currently in the system coming through (Mintyukov, Zellweger, and Dostal), this team doesn’t score nearly enough with no high upside forwards coming up

That is why this draft is so critical. The Top 5 are all much better potential players than anyone in our current young core. I actually don't want Z being our best player, he really isn't now, but even when he reaches his potential still don't want him to be. Depth is so critical to being a contender.

I'd say the other rebuilding teams are hoping to end up with what we have. Also we have so many picks in the next 2 years to add on including another top 5 pick. I don't buy that the best strategy is to be perennially shit until we have accrued all the top 10 talent possible, but rather to begin to develop around the top 10 talent we have instead of assuming they can't be that good for us one day. There are good wingers in the teen picks and beyond most drafts. We need to the scouts to hit on those.

Not to mention free agency and making trades from our good drafting are options.

I’m actually curious: Of all the teams outside of the playoffs, either rebuilding or in no mans land, who would you guys switch assets with? I only see possibly BUF, DET, and OTT.
This will be easier to answer the draft lottery because all those teams are all way further along then Anaheim is
