Verbeek was on record saying that a team with new players and system takes 20+ games to figure things out. That statement, with the .500 statement, indicate that Eakins is achieving pretty much exactly what Verbeek expected. The key point will be how he feels McTavis, Zegras, and Terry were developed.

For everyone pining for a new Verbeek picked coach, keep in mind that the AHL coaching roster is 100% him this year.

By interesting, you mean “seeing if we can get average shots against to 60” interesting?
I think it would be fair to say if Verbeek makes a coaching change that it will work out better than it did in San Diego based solely on the difference of the amount of time and preparation he'd have in assessing what he wants and seeing what's out there.

He didn't have as much time to do that with San Diego last year as he will with Anaheim this year.

I don’t know if the San Diego situation was due to a time crunch, a lack of interested candidates, or Verbeek believing that he was the right coach for the job.

It’ll be the same amount of time this summer, though, and it’s not like he’s been interviewing people as we go along - that requires permission from other teams, and it’d get out.

Feels like we are playing what Verbeek expected in the last 20 or so games, we are a game over .500 in that time, not bad given this Line up.

This roster is poorly constructed, I’m also indifferent with Eakins even if I tend to lean on the moving on from him side. Like you said he has crap to work with. The PP is putrid again but I don’t think that is on him. Really showed how underrated Geoff Ward was. Have to give props to the PK, has really done a 180 this season.

Three things changed at ES play recently
1. McTavish became a top-6 center
2. Strome moved to wing
3. Lundy returned from injury as dynamic Lundy

The youths down the middle are developing and are one of the main reasons for the improvement. Although, I think McTavish hit a wall as of late. I think Klingberg's offensive mind has been better as the season as gone.
In our top-4 scoring, three of them are our youths Z, Terry, and McTavish; Rico is third in scoring. That's impressive the youths are leading the team in scoring despite not having proper defensive support.

The PK did make huge changes around game 16 and continued to make changes
1. Rico became a regular & FO specialist
2. Vatrano became a regular ... speed
3. Megna, a waiver wire pickup, became a regular & FO specialist ... speed
4. Recently, Lundy can chip in on the PK.

Didn't Verbeek hire someone to oversee the San Diego org? Rob DiMaio is the asst GM to Verbeek and is the GM of the AHL club. That means DiMaio might be in charge of finding a new coach for Verbeek.

In regards to the PP, it doesn't seem like they give themselves many options lately. Idk if the staff is telling the players to focus on one or two specific plays, but it seems like they force things and aren't adapting to what the PK is giving them/taking away.

If Terry is out for the foreseeable future, we might not even gain the zone for the rest of the season. Especially if they keep doing that stupid drop pass play on the entry.
You mean you don't enjoy Fowler skating to the red line and then coasting for an hour and half before he drops the puck back in a no look behind the back pass?

If he's decided to make a change I think it's likely he's already had discussions with unemployed coaches and done research on the employed ones he anticipates will become unemployed this summer. At least, it would make sense for him to approach it that way.

He wouldn't have had as much time to do any of that with San Diego last year based on when he was hired.

I'll walk back my point a little in that more time doesn't necessarily translate to better outcomes, but it shouldnt hurt.

It's so annoying to watch, especially since it doesn't work half the time.

I stopped following them , I know they read this forum *waves*. But right now I have more faith in Grant than Comtois.

HF Ducks members here contribute more to better thoughts and ideas than their entire so called Crash the pond beat writers group.
Aren't these the ones that moan incessantly about how Eakins is ruining Zegras and McTavish's development, but then turn around and complain that Regenda is in San Diego where Eakins can't coach him? (Or is that just the rest of Twitter?)

The Jones-McTavish-Vatrano line had a couple good shifts at the end of a game recently so naturally Eakins probably thinks there's something there even though there probably isn't.
