I think its good to have the vets rocking the As to start but eventually I see the leadership group being, in no specific order, Terry/Strome/McTavish/Fowler.

Silf is just about done in the NHL. Henrique will not be around much longer. I wouldnt want to burden Z with something like that. Drysdale is one of the quietest guys there is. I think thats about the only guys I would even consider to be part of that leadership group that will be around for more than a year or two more.

When will you admit this team is just not very good... if not today, I'll wait for it soon. We all know (or at least the realistic people) what we are in for.
Please bold the part of the post that indicates the team is good. As opposed to the part that says it is not.
Is this team questionably constructed? Yes. Are some of the personal decisions open to question? Yes, although we have no idea what happens in practices.
Edit - I also said that nobody was getting fired or traded right now. In no way shape or form was it implied that nobody would be fired or traded at all. You’re arguing a straw man.

So was Niedermayer and that worked out just fine.

It's way too early to say if any of the younger players have what it takes to be a captain in the NHL. Some of them have been captains in the past, but that doesn't necessarily mean that will translate to the NHL.

I'm fine with rotating the A's for this season. If they decide Terry is the guy, it would make sense to give it to him next season. If it's going to be one of Drysdale, Zegras, McTavish, or any of the other younger guys then I can see us going without a captain for at least another year after this one - maybe more.

Mentioning Drysdale being quiet isnt just on the ice or anything like that. Scotty was intentional, which is what I think Fowler is. Drysdale doesnt carry himself like a leader, at least not yet. So when I say hes quiet, I mean in more ways than just "the dude dont talk".

McTavish for me is the question mark. He seemed like such a great leader at world juniors and then we get a taste of him in a post game interview and he seems... awkward. New kid, bright lights, different setting.

I see us going without a captain this season. I think when game 1 hits next year, we will have a C on a chest.

I don't think talking is necessarily a sign of leadership regardless of the context. Take Zegras for example. He's talkative, but I certainly wouldn't say he's captain material right now.

Also, how many times did we see Getzlaf dig a hole for himself early on in his captaincy because he wouldn't stop bitching at the refs? I'm not saying I didn't enjoy seeing that, I did, but I really don't think because someone is or isn't quiet makes them captain material or not.

Leading by example is probably the number one quality I would look for in a captain and so far Drysdale hasn't shown me he doesn't have that in him.

100%. But just like my point about Drysdale being quiet, I don't necessarily think charisma is an important quality of a captain. It doesn't hurt, but I don't think it should be a priority.

I dont think Im quite getting my point across right. Talkativeness plays about 0% into my assessments, so I agree with you there. Its how he carries himself, his play, his emotions. Its not a slight on him, and he could change as he matures, but he just isnt a guy I look at and see a guy who players want to follow. Tons of excellent players fall into that category.

Right, he doesnt have to be a cheerleader or anything like that. He can be all bussiness. My main point with McT is that he was my #1 choice for next C going into the season and I just see a guy who needs to spend time getting comfortable first.

Something will have to happen in the next day because PTOs will be done with. He'll have to sign or walk.

He was offered a PTO with the Gulls, even though it was never announced by them. They have to finalize their roster tonight so we'll see if he's on there.

Ok I knew he was offered that just didnt know if it would stay on our roster. Interesting.

He could do worse than to live 40 min away from home and play in San Diego for a year. I'd be shocked if he didn't see games with us this season as well.
