Not sure why Beaulieu gets so much hate
Other than Benoit no other dman can clear the crease throw a hit and he's the only one not scared to drop the gloves. Good on the pk
I completely agree with your logic... I actually think we need TWO more of those type players.. I just can't agree on Beaulieu he's just horrible. He's the literal polar opposite of Fowler.... All physicality and slow moving. We need someone that can play solid defense but brings physicality and actually tries to clear the paint... But doesn't go out of their way to make a dumb hit like Beaulieu constantly does.

I thought this thought was already concrete with any UFAs we have going into this season, including the newly acquired players such as Klingberg and Kulikov. What's changed?

I don’t see Klingberg as bad as people are making him out to be here. He’s putting up the points and being a difference maker out there. I’m indifferent on Kulikov, but the rest of the roster besides the young guys are underwhelming.

Just think about the future, just think about the future, just think about the future…

This is where I have a hard time finding common ground with others on here. I don’t think Gibson will be here for the long haul. He’s basically wasting his prime years with a terrible team in front of him.

I get that the Ducks will have the most cap space, but Verbeek didn’t utilize it to his advantage this year. What makes you think it will happen again this coming offseason?

Vatrano is also on the first page.

How do you want to see the defense with Vaakanainen back?
It's better than I thought about it in the summer - because Fowler and Kulikov are playing together now. That leaves the #3 LD open for Urho. We do need Benoit in our lineup as someone with at least some grit.

But I'm still frustrated how short was his stint in San Diego.

Maybe swap Benoit and Vaak until he can get his feet under him.

I don't think Eakins will sit Shat for White though.
As much as it pains me, Shatt has not been as huge a liability as he was last season post-ASG.

Still shouldn't be anything above 3rd pairing, but I would agree that if it came down to White vs Shatt, Shatt's probably taking that one.

Yo @Hockey Duckie have to ask you for a favor. Can you post a spread sheet of Fowler with Kulikov vs his other partners. I’m curious to know, think that pairing has been very good, and Fowler has also looked good.

Fowler is going to be a critical stop gap until Minty and/or Zell are ready.

These stats are from Natural Stat Trick.

Key:
Corsi For Percentage (CF%): The total of Corsi For shot attempts divided by the total of Corsi For shot attempts and Corsi Against shot attempts. A player percentage over 50% indicates his team is generating more shot attempts than the opposition when the player is on the ice

This is the totality of the pairings at Even Strength. It doesn't show the trend of improvement. It'll take some time to find the trend as I'll have to comb through the desert of line combinations for 23 games.

combing-the-desert-space-balls.gif

This table is about shot comparisons. Shot metrics are used as portray possession metrics.

Based upon the totality, White is Fowler's best partner with respect to Corsi For %, but it's such a small sample. Playing with Benoit means one of these players are playing on their off-side and you can tell it's not a proper solution. Fowler-Drysdale should never be a pair, it's much worse than Fowler-Klingberg.

I think Kulikov has finally found his groove and is able to play RD, despite being an LD. Combine that with Fowler's limiting PK time, then there's a lot of factors that makes this line good.

The kicker is Shatty is Fowler's most productive partner. :partytime:

FowlerShattenkirk1913:062.602.1454.9541380.0

Now, we're looking at goal productions instead of shots. Shots show possession, but goals ultimately determine wins and losses. We're going to exclude White, Strand, and Beaulieu due to such a small sample.

At this point, Fowler-Kulikov makes us break even at Even Strength play. Again, this is a total summary and not a trend breakdown.

From what I gather, Benoit and Fowler cannot play the opposite side very well. ❌
Fowler-Klingberg should never be a pair unless forced to be a pair. ❌
Fowler-Drysdale probably isn't a great pairing b/c neither are shutdown types. ❌
Fowler-Kulikov break even as a pair. ☑️
Fowler-Shatty is very underrated by the fans. ☑️ ✅

You know who else is underrated? Colton White.

I looked at Shatty's partners and there's a significant reason why Vaaks was rushed up the NHL club once he got one game in San Diego... Beaulieu is a bad, bad man pairing with Shatty.

@Hockey Duckie you rock dude. Yeah Fowler should not be with Drysdale or Klingberg, but works well with Kulikov and also him with Shatty is underrated but giving Shatty Top 4 mins could be an issue

I don't think Shatty getting top-4 minutes is an issue b/c he's been doing that for the past two seasons now. I think it's more about spreading the wealth so we aren't more exposed with our blueline. At the end of games, that's when we would see Fowler-Shatty. Now, we don't need to do that b/c Fowler has Kulikov now.

We can continue the Vaaks-Shatty pairing that started last year. Yup, Shatty's job is like Eakins' job, help develop whatever youth blueliner is his partner.

I don’t know why Eakins doesn’t try something different. What is there to lose at this point? I understand that it’s like shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic but it’s his job to try to make something work here

Vatrano-Lundestrom-Carrick

Why not!!

You're asking for a lot from Eakins.
