No it suggests what is expected. Z is on pace for 30+ goals . Pretty damn good for a playmaking C.

It’s usually a combination of luck and skill. The expected goals number only has to do with shot location, it doesn’t factor in shooting talent. Typically, if I see a good shooter on that list, then I consider it sustainable. If a bad shooter is on that list, then I consider them luckier.

Technically it is saying that Zegras has scored 8 goals, but the cumulative number of expected goals based on his shoot volume and location is only 3.1 goals.
