When Verbeek took over on Feb 3, 2022, the Ducks were 23-16-9 (55 points).
From
Detroit News on Feb 3, 2022, when Verbeek was hired:
I identified two similar events in different seasons with the same team to show Verbeek intended to reset the team all long. Yet, your tunnel-vision is far too proud to accept Verbeek had reset all along.
BTW, are you saying that Verbeek isn't imaginative enough to either a) acquire a hole on the cheap or b) acquire an asset that could potentially become a long term solution? Gudbranson was had for a 7th round pick and a forgotten prospect. Is a "7th round pick and a forgotten prospect" far too rich of assets to burn?
Last season with any one of Lindholm, Fowler, or Manson down, then the team would be icing three rookies in Drysdale, Mahura, and Benoit. Even our AHL replacements were worse than those three rookies. Yet, Verbeek offered no support despite being in a playoff hunt with a record of, again, 23-16-9 (55 pts).
This season, we're hit with a lot of injuries to the blue line in Vaaks, Drysdale, Shattenkirk, and Beaulieu. Verbeek is standing still with no thoughts of acquiring any outside help again, but this year is different. We haven't won a game in regulation time after 15 games, 4-10-1 (9 pts). For comparison, Anaheim was 8-4-3 (17 pts) last year in our first 15 games. I have no problem with Verbeek not trying to acquire outside help.
The problem with proud tunnel-vision is it's difficult to notice nuances from the narrative.
