We've seen that Fowler can be pretty darn successful when utilized properly. Unfortunately for the better part of his career, he's been forced into far less than ideal conditions. Whether it's playing top four minutes as a younger D with a revolving door of partners highlighted by Lovejoy, playing top pair with Bieksa, or this current state of being the heaviest minute muncher on a team devoid of physical defensive help - none of it plays to Fowler's strengths.
He's best served leading the puck moving charge on a second pair (or 1A/B situation) where he has a bigger bodied partner who is strong defensively. If we had a true top pair, and could put Fowler with a Manson type, he'd be fantastic in that role.
