Meltzer actually mentioning a 1+8 deal for JG. I thought about the same scenario but he would have to be pretty ballsy to take that type of deal. Flyers would even need to probably use bonus structure if they can’t move out other salary. They are in such a shit position regardless.

Wonder if they’d consider trading van Riemsdyk for a player with more term but a lower cap hit. How’d Tyler Johnson look at the end of the season? He and Farabee could bond over their artificial discs.

So maybe a 1-1 swap and a Provorov trade for futures to LA could work? Just spitballing how the clusterf*** could develop.

Does anyone with a brain believe for 1 nanosecond that Gaudreau might sign here?

Literally anyone with a braincell or more understands it won't happen, right? Why would he ever entertain coming here? The Devils at least have Hughes (especially) and Hischier and now Nemec and are poised to start getting something rolling. The Flyers have Coots and Sanheim for 40 more games and are poised to rolling in sewage until 2030. Not to mention the cap being the biggest setback, which of course is no one's fault but Fletcher's after Fisto, Betterfitkinson, DeAngelo, and Kev.

People pushing for this/believing in it have no brain function. This includes Fletcher.

I thought about that too but as a UFA I need to see that be done first because to my knowledge it never has.

As much as I disagree they can’t move Provorov without another heavy minute defender coming back. They don’t believe Sanheim is that type of player.

Meltzer mentioned this is in his piece today. Again, I would move Provorov if the deal was right but I would for about every single player on this team.

I have long thought Arizona and the Flyers matched up with a big deal around Provorov & JVR ++ for Chychrun

And trust me……. I feel there is no chance at that happening unless JG absolutely doesn’t want to play anywhere else. Which is not the case clearly and when 70 million reasons are on the table to play elsewhere, it’s really hard to turn that down.

It’s very clearly and credibly reported that it’s an option to him.

Today is going to set us back for a long time. If we had a GM who knew his job was secure (or deserved to be so) then he'd be able to let today pass him by and build properly. Have the shit season we all know we're going to have and pick high, often and well.

Instead we're going to hamstring ourselves to the cap and finish in the bubble again.

Flyers put themselves in a position where they could miss out on a franchise player who wants to play here due to the horrible contracts they have handed out. That’s what is confusing me.

JG has to be a more important piece than Ristolainen, yet we are going to move Provorov in a cap dump to make it okay for Risto?

Also, couldn’t we have waited on the DeAngelo trade or RFA signing to give team’s less contract information to extort the Flyers with.

That’s what is confusing if you knew you were getting JG. Why wouldn’t you anticipate these things?

Where was it reported that JG would take a one year deal besides Meltzer mentioning it?
He’s the only one. He says his contacts says Philly is his preferred destination based on his own sources and other pundits. The 1 year thing is a hypothetical among other more likely painful options for the team.

Only reasonable thought with DeAngelo is that they used it as a recruiting tool to bring Gaudreau here because they’re friends.

Anything other then that they’re complete morons if they’re actually pursuing Gaudreau.

Seems like he actually wants to be a Flyer, which defies reason.

I’m not pushing for Gaudreau signing with the Flyers.

He’d likely take a bit of a discount to be a Flyer. If it’s too big of a discount I could see him as a Devil but if they’re even relatively close he’d be a Flyer
I still don't think he's coming to the Flyers unless she's married to some girl from South Jersey that's forcing his hand

I know of a young up and coming team that couldn't even get a text reply fwiw. Whatever it is sounds done.

I said it before and I'll say it again. I don't get all the hype around JG. Really good player definitely. But the guy average .95ppg up until this year, a year he knew would decide his future. He had a career year on a very good and very well coached team. He is about to receive a massive contract at 29 years old based on that career year.

If he comes here it will be to a terrible team with a coach that preaches defence above all else, who has had 3 ppg seasons by a player in the last 14 years, none over 90 points.

If JG comes here I think he ends up being a huge flop, you'll end up paying 10+ mil for an 80ish point guy, who probably has a pretty steep decline when he loses a half step.

I have no interest in acquiring him, I think if they do it seals in another 5 years of aimless mediocrity.
This. All of it. Gaudreau got owned by faster and bigger players in the Oilers series. He’s cute and he’s Hayes’ frat bro, so they will waste assets to make room to sign him, but they still won’t make the playoffs. Shiny toys lose their lustre after a couple bad years. Is he really going to sign up for that?
