That Couturier line...wtf man? If you sign JG, you stick him on his wing 100%
Coots makes his wingers better. He could get the kids going. If you put JG with Coots, youre a 1 line team.

Hayes and johnny are friends who have played together before. Theyll at least be tried together.

You all realize his pathetic and desperate defense of Chuck actually has absolutely nothing to do with Chuck, right?

It's really a pathetic and desperate defense of himself and his contrarian positions. He can't possibly be wrong. We can't possibly be right. That couldn't possibly be the case, or else everything he thinks he knows is bullshit, and that certainly can't be the case.

We all know that, right? Great, carry on.

• All eyes are on New Jersey and Philadelphia for Gaudreau. The Flyers have indicated James van Riemsdyk will not be traded, because they are not willing to pay what it will cost to move the cap hit. One source indicated it was similar to what Toronto sent Carolina — a first-round draft pick — for the Hurricanes to take Patrick Marleau in 2019. And teams prefer Philadelphia’s 2023 pick, not the Florida 2024 selection acquired for Claude Giroux.

What would be the play then if not JVR? Provorov and a cheap replacement?

You separate Coots and JG then you're a 0 line team.
Farabee and TK are both top 50 scorers, with Couts they're a legitimate 1st line.
JG - Hayes - Atkinson gives you one of the best 2nd lines in the NHL.
Cates - Frost - Tippett becomes your energy line.
And they can audition players on the 4th line all season.

I like how the 2nd line is the one with the 115 point scorer on it.
Newsflash: Any line with Gaudreau on it is the 1st line.

That was one season with 115 points, probably an anomaly.
He's unlikely to put up 90 ES points again, his three other best seasons (out of 8) were 57, 60 & 72.
JG is more likely to put up 80-90 points a season the next three years.

Putting JG on a line to watch Hayes never pass the puck sounds like a great use of a 10+ million dollar player.

I said it before and I'll say it again. I don't get all the hype around JG. Really good player definitely. But the guy average .95ppg up until this year, a year he knew would decide his future. He had a career year on a very good and very well coached team. He is about to receive a massive contract at 29 years old based on that career year.

If he comes here it will be to a terrible team with a coach that preaches defence above all else, who has had 3 ppg seasons by a player in the last 14 years, none over 90 points.

If JG comes here I think he ends up being a huge flop, you'll end up paying 10+ mil for an 80ish point guy, who probably has a pretty steep decline when he loses a half step.

I have no interest in acquiring him, I think if they do it seals in another 5 years of aimless mediocrity.

Just as we suspected, everyone worried about the Florida pick moving. Turns out it’s not even enough. Friedman also wrote they’re looking at Dylan Strome, which quite frankly, is someone they should be, if they were doing smart things.

Something doesn’t add up with the JVR speculation. Teams like Chicago/Seattle/Arizona might be playing hardball but to take a player like that for any first round pick I feel you pull the trigger. Why wouldn’t you? You can then retain 50% at the deadline and get another pretty high pick probably for him again.

Not saying the reports aren’t true, the GMs of other teams may be playing hardball just because they all believe JG will sign here and Fletcher needs to move that contract. Who blinks first?

Size comparisons aside, it kinda reminds me of us signing Briere…had 95 points with Buffalo one year and didn’t come close to that when he got to the Flyers…Briere made up for that by being a playoff stud….but with playoffs nowhere in sight…

I honestly feel so beaten down by the bad decisions this team makes, I don’t even care anymore. I’m going into the season numb, hoping somehow this pitch patched team can somehow strike lightning under Torts and miraculously makes a run….

Normally when any of my favorite sports teams suck, I take solace in the fact that they will get a high selection in the draft…but that’s not even an option with this team…just went from the eagles having three firsts last draft, trading one to move up and get there guy while also grabbing another first in next years draft…to this shit show

D. Strome bad at D for a center, bad at faceoffs, very slow footspeed. Not enough extras for a top 6, and not enough grit for bottom 6. Looked bad on small sample size at wing. It would be a total lottery win if he can work as second center, because out of the two Hayes is the only one that can slot down lines and be effective.

Blackhawks we’re trying to trade him for like 2 years too and then didn’t bother to qualify him when cap isn’t a problem and need guys to actually play.

May be over thinking this, but if the storyline is that JG still loves the Flyers and wants to play in Philly for a variety of reasons, would he instead sign with the Debs and probably get booed every time he touches the ice for the rest of his career in Philly? Because, that’s likely what would happen.

Have we stopped to think that Meltzer has never stopped being a mouth piece for the franchise and the Flyers have no plans of actually pursuing Gaudreau?

He’s just finally selling something that no one will buy. Fletcher is in the end game now with the entire fan base. He either signs Gaudreau or feels the fury of the Authentics while already feeling it from the rest.

He’s putting together an off-season that will satisfy literally nobody but himself

It would be smart to go after Dylan Strome, because it gets us closer to Bedard…
